Taking a break from twitter I have realized: I am not missing very much.
Every time I come back, I am annoyed by people who are wrong on internet yet not motivated to participate in these arguments. I hope to not come back here much. Please email me: roblock713 (at) gmail
Excited to be back in The Nation this morning. It is my sincere belief that AOC is the only viable presidential candidate from the left. In order to channel all of that energy, she needs to reconcile completely with the Palestine solidarity movement https://t.co/q7m9ZrElcK
@evan7257 Is he still trying to avoid having to pay up for people being murdered in his apartment complexes because he won't fix the security gates? https://t.co/5nMGqwlzLN
@kakazodia@OsseChi@nycDSA This is a topic of robust debate in our organization! We continue to need to expand in black, brown and working class communities. https://t.co/Ulc5aCfOFt
@jasonc_nc@Aintropy@evan7257@HoustonChron Firefighters don't like change! It's true. Firefighters do like having new apparatus, and if a different model is cheaper and can be delivered faster, (the current model is broken and everyone is mad about it) you are going to win hearts and minds.
@jasonc_nc@Aintropy@evan7257@HoustonChron And then you can include as a giant footnote that having a fleet like this allows for the urban planning changes that have x and y kinds of benefits.
@jasonc_nc@Aintropy@evan7257@HoustonChron I honestly think the more important case to make to Fire Service, is from the other direction: A side by side comparison of a fleet built the way you propose, if its cheaper and faster to manufacture, how much so. We need a picture and a price tag to understand and compare.
@jasonc_nc@Aintropy@evan7257@HoustonChron I can't defend it, and I am sympathetic to the idea that alternatives could be better. As a lay person who works for the fire department, you are not making much of a case that would help me convince fire service people this plan is viable or of benefit to us.
@jasonc_nc@Aintropy@evan7257@HoustonChron Fire Services that are basically rural is not an apple to apple comparison for municipal fire departments, and I don't see it will show urbanist benefits, but just reposting old tweets is not going to help persuade people that don't already agree with you.
@jasonc_nc@Aintropy@evan7257@HoustonChron Correct. Fire Service does not like shifting from something that works to something that seems like an experiment. I would build an FAQ website that explains how and why this should be done, and has some kind of case studies from what Calfire & Forrest Service have done.
@jasonc_nc@Aintropy@evan7257@HoustonChron Jason, if you want a Fire Dept to adopt this, you need to present a 101 of how to do it, and a case study or two of places that have done it. My city runs a thousand calls a day, "you can order a different model" is not not going to move the needle a lot with decision makers
