The Director General of @imc_puntland, together with technical experts from the center, participated in the 72nd IGAD Climate Outlook Forum (GHACOF 72), convened by the IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC) for the Greater Horn of Africa, under the theme:

“Advancing Climate Services to Strengthen Community Resilience and Support Sustainable Development in the Greater Horn of Africa.”

The forum brought together climate scientists, government institutions from the Horn of Africa, development partners, media, and civil society organizations to deliberate on the regional climate outlook for the Gu’ seasonal rainfall of (March–May 2026 ) and its potential impacts on key livelihood and socio-economic sectors.

Madobe Is Not the Issue — Somalia’s Federal Election Is

In 2019, @PresidentMadobe was ELECTED, and then-opposition leader and former President @HassanSMohamud risked his life to attend the inauguration in Kismaayo — the footage of his warm congratulations still exists and is attached.

Equally, @HamzaAbdiBarre — who now protests Madobe’s November 2024 re-election — was then the Chairman of Jubaland’s Independent Electoral Commission and personally certified that very process. The attached clip speaks for itself.

Today, after Madobe followed the same state-led process used by all Federal Member States, those who once endorsed him now cry “improper election,” while President Hassan Sheikh has himself extended the mandates of leaders of Galmudug, Southwest state, and Hirshabelle — powers granted by neither federal nor state constitutions.

These regions have operated under expired terms since as far back as 2022, yet it is Jubaland that is treated as the national emergency.

The contradiction is staggering.

Barely seven months remain of the federal mandate, with parliamentary elections due in February and March — the real clock is ticking.

Somalia has no time for manufactured outrage or convenient scapegoats. Madobe’s election — held a year ago — is not the national debate; the urgent task is agreeing on a federal electoral model.

Excellencies @HassanSMohamud and @HamzaAbdiBarre, let us return to the real conversation: your dwindling mandate and the national election ahead.

Madobe cannot be the red herring. Somalia sees through it.

Leaked Somalia-Turkey Oil Deal sparks controversy Amid Allegations of lack of Transparency

A confidential oil and gas agreement between Somalia and Turkey has sparked public outrage after it was leaked by the Turkish Parliament, revealing terms widely seen as favoring Ankara and raising concerns over Somalia's economic sovereignty and transparency.

The deal grants Turkey exclusive control over exploration, refining, and marketing operations in Somalia, while offering limited benefits to the Somali government. One of the most contentious clauses allows Turkey to recoup 90% of its operational costs before Somalia receives any share of the profits. The Somali government is entitled to just 5% in royalties and does not receive a signing bonus.

Critics say the agreement was signed in secret by only two Somali ministries, without parliamentary approval, and was not disclosed to the Somali Parliament. It also permits Turkey to manage security operations at Somalia’s expense and exempts the Turkish company involved from paying taxes in Somalia, prompting concerns of an added burden on local citizens.

Disputes under the agreement are to be resolved in courts based in Istanbul, raising questions over judicial neutrality. The contract automatically renews every three years unless Somalia provides a six-month notice for termination.

Observers and legal experts say the deal reflects deep economic and political imbalances, with Turkey set to gain significantly while Somalia is sidelined from managing its own natural resources. Legal challenges to the agreement would likely face lengthy litigation in Turkish courts. #Turkiye #Somalia
