Will need to be saying a prayer before reading the upcoming Swallow You Whole chapters because I can already feel how absolutely devastating they are going to be. 💔And to think I was so eager to know about their past lives, but now I think ignorance would have been bliss…
That story was pure rage bait to me. 😭I can’t even count how many times I wanted to throw my phone across the room while reading it. I was following it while it was serializing and bought it in both Korean and English. I hated how the mc SAed 🍇his friend/ex-lover, then went back to the ml and the ml just forgave him so easily. Sorry to everyone who likes them, but they were both insufferable to me. The sequel looks kind of cute, but I’ll be staying far away from it in case those characters end up getting ruined too, just like the couple in the prequel.
The amount of emotional distress this episode of Plaything caused me?? Thank God this series has a novel, because this episode had me completely fooled before I read the novel chapter. I am glad most manhwa authors don’t show their characters aging up, because I am not strong enough to handle anything happening to my favorite characters.

The novel is only available in Korean, but you can easily translate it using Chrome or Safari. I read it on Mr. Blue, and Chrome does a great job translating it into English.

Sayan dying in this new episode of the manhwa was actually Ilic’s dream. Sayan had been sick for a long time, and even though Ilic never admitted it, he was afraid of losing him.
By this point, they had already been together for more than 30 years and were even grandparents to Leisa’s (Sayan’s nephew’s) children. So when Ilic wakes up from his dream, after all those years, he seems to finally realize just how much Sayan means to him.
My favorite excerpts from the final chapter:
“We were partners who had spent more than half of our lives together. At this point, whether I liked it or not, he was my companion. We weren’t bound by blood, but we even had people who were like children and grandchildren to us now.”
“Besides, even at this age, it was certain that no one this beautiful could be found, even if one searched the entire continent. The former emperor in my dream had been beautiful even in death. Yet, he was nothing compared to the living Sayan right before my eyes.”
“As I tightened my arms around him and pressed our bodies together, his familiar scent grew a little deeper. Filling my lungs to the brim with that fragrance, I kissed Sayan, who was alive and breathing in my embrace.”
And if we count the three years he spent in Arnata, that would mean Tei had been celibate for 15 years if he truly never became intimate with anyone else.
The manhwa literally states that he had his fair share of sexual experiences, so where would those experiences have come from if he had been celibate for 15 years of his life? He is now a man in his mid-to-late thirties, so it would actually be more surprising if he had spent all those years simply waiting for Shuraka.
It is definitely possible that he said those things in the latest chapter to get Shuraka to finally concede.
I don’t think anyone in Leracal would really care if Tei had relationships with other people, since he was widely seen as having been abandoned by Shuraka, making the marriage seem as though it no longer held much value.
Based on this panel from a previous chapter and their conversation in today’s chapter, I’m curious if Tei was sleeping with other people in Leracal during the 12 years he spent apart from Shuraka. I don’t remember whether this was ever mentioned in the story or by the author. I would think not, since they were already married at that point, but I can’t say for sure…. 🤔I’m genuinely curious, and I don’t know if a reread would help.
I don’t think it would count as a betrayal toward Shuraka. Tei was a grown man in his prime, while Shuraka was still a child, and from how things stood, Tei didn’t believe Shuraka would want him back as his consort or empress once he grew up.
Tei had every right to move on and find comfort wherever he could. He couldn’t be expected to spend the rest of his life abstaining from something that is almost essential for him, especially living in a cold land like Leracal where his life could be cut short at any moment.
Given Tei’s devoted nature, it’s likely he did not sleep with anyone during that time, but it wouldn’t be surprising if he did. I don’t agree that it doesn’t need to be explicitly stated, because Tei alluded to needing to satisfy his desires just like any other man from Leracal. Some clarification would be nice for sure.
Yes, that’s exactly what I thought too. Even if he did have relationships with other people, I wouldn’t consider Tei unfaithful to Shuraka given the circumstances. To Tei, their marriage was mostly a political arrangement on paper, and Shuraka was still a child, so he obviously never viewed him in a romantic light.
So it seems that it was never explicitly stated whether Tei slept with other people during those years. However, based on what he told Shuraka and what was implied, it’s easy to assume that Tei, like his fellow countrymen from Leracal, took every opportunity and didn’t hesitate to get intimate with others. I am not sure whether he was saying that solely to rile Shuraka up or if he was referring to his past self from 15 years ago, before his marriage to Shuraka. Personally, I wouldn’t consider Tei unfaithful to Shuraka even if he did sleep with others. Tei viewed their marriage primarily as a political alliance and always assumed that, once Shuraka came of age, he would eventually take a woman as his consort and empress. He never imagined that Shuraka would still want him after all those years.
Tei cared deeply for Shuraka and continued praying for him throughout the years, but he mostly saw him as someone he needed to protect. He probably never expected their marriage to develop into a romantic relationship. He also believed that Shuraka no longer wanted or needed him after he was sent back to Leracal.
And considering that Tei is now in his mid-to-late thirties and that he and Shuraka have been married for around 15 years, I don’t know if it’s realistic to assume that he remained celibate that entire time. On top of that, Tei’s homeland Leracal has different customs and values so I think that’s worth keeping in mind as well.
Tei can do no wrong tho so nothing he does will ever change my perception of him.
