My novel THE SLIP is coming 6/3/25 from @SimonBooks. Itโs a big Texas novel about a missing teenage boy and cases of mistaken & fluid identity and the transformative power of boxing, and I canโt wait to share it with you. Please consider preordering today! ๐ฅ
Popping back on here to say my little ghost story (geist story?) can be found in the new @geistmag along with lots of other cool art and writing. I'll be reading at the Geist/Room/subTerrain triple launch at the Vancouver Public Library this Saturday Oct 5. Come say hi!
@fraubux actually all of that sounds fair enough :) I loved that story, though I won't say I "got" it. maybe it's ok to love what you don't understand? sounds like your students are lucky to have you

@ericahiroko The usual crew: buffelheads (my fave), a buttload of American coots and these cute tiny gulls. Just felt really good to be out there, hope you catch some sun soon too!
In honor of the new year let the '23 wares hawking begin! Teaching 2 courses @PorchTN: one for the long-winded, one for the succinct (since it's me both appropriate for the long-winded tbh). It'll be low key & practical. Maybe I'll wear my hot dog costume. Who knows! Join us!
I have a new poem in the @TheAtlantic. Thank you @fhill_official for giving her a home. I hope youโll take a moment to read it. Sending much love to all whoโs known this peculiar kind of loss.

@rzhongnotes if it's something specific I'm struggling, like dialogue in a scene, I go read/watch something by someone good at the thing I'm bad at. Don't have to copy/imitate, but that "damn, that's good" feeling sometimes makes me want to be better?
@rzhongnotes I try to just go do something else. work on a different scene/different project, go out, read a book. sometimes you read a poem or see something on the bus and it shakes something loose
I wanted to write a novel about the wild and expansive city I moved to 16 years ago, a place that is always (and never!) changing. Canโt wait to share my debut novel THE SLIP and introduce you to the Austin I know.
