We're excited to share we're partnering with @stripe as part of their Stripe Projects developer preview.
Create and manage PlanetScale Postgres and Vitess databases straight from the Stripe CLI. All of your dev tool provisioning and billing now centralized in one place.
Introducing Database Traffic Control: a Postgres traffic management system built into PlanetScale.
Enforce flexible budgets on your database traffic to protect against unexpected and dangerous workloads.
"We’ve teamed up with PlanetScale because we wanted to partner with a database provider that we could confidently recommend to our users: one that shares our obsession with performance, reliability and developer experience. These are all critical factors for any development team building a serious application."

We've brought PlanetScale Insights to Postgres.
This gives developers deep observability into query performance, index usage, anomaly detection, and more.
while the toy databases compare their database provisioning times i'll share that last week i watched a customer spin up a 192 shard @PlanetScale cluster (600 nodes, 23,040,000 IOPs) in 24 minutes. 98% of this time was consumed by amazon.
Network-attached storage, like EBS, has some major downsides:
- Going over the network to read/write data adds latency
- Bandwidth limitations lead to much lower allocated IOPS
Attaching an SSD straight to the server solves both of these problems. And that's exactly what you get with PlanetScale Metal.
PlanetScale's robust replication and automated failover infrastructure allows us to use compute instances with directly-attached SSDs. Data is replicated 3+ times over 3 availability zones, making Metal the perfect choice for applications that require low latency and high IOPS.
Failover is the foundation of high availability. At PlanetScale we perform over 100k each month, 99%+ of them on purpose.
It's used for version upgrades, node TTLs, and unexpected failures.
So what is a failover?
this is the most honest and transparent vendor-sponsored database benchmark i’ve ever seen. major kudos to ben.
they really tried to get the most out of the competitors products and still prevailed!
Next Tuesday we will be opening our office all day to people that want early access and help migrating to our Postgres product. We will end the day with a rager of a party. Sign up here: https://t.co/7NT1FLOqTM
