@hellelilancunin @crimzonrite To me it takes away the nuances if it’s simply a strict order from Caz that they all had to sleep with them everytime. I like to see how Caz manipulated Astarion into sexualizing himself and choosing to manipulate his victims by sex. The author just failed to do so unfortunately.

@hellelilancunin @crimzonrite I don’t want to defend the book. The author made really bad choices. However my understanding is that sex is Astarion’s power. He uses sex to manipulate victims, to make them trust him and willingly follow him to the Palace. They may not trust him before he sleeps with them.

@hellelilancunin @crimzonrite Also my hc is Caz would manipulate the spawn into sexualizing themselves instead of simply ordering them specifically to seduce and sleep with every victim. Most of them would use seduction but it’s not a strict order.

@hellelilancunin @crimzonrite If it’s an essential component of the ritual then I don’t think Astarion could ascend? I suppose Caz cannot replace him in this case. I still don’t think it’s explicitly mentioned Caz ordered them all to sleep with the victims. It’s open to interpretation IMO.

@crimzonrite @hellelilancunin My hc was Caz specifically forced him and manipulated him to use his body a lot until he got so used to it. Seduction became the most convenient way for him to get prey and he began to use sex as a weapon to manipulate prey so that he could feel a bit in control.

@crimzonrite @hellelilancunin Yeah he’s probably forced by Caz to sleep with a lot of them. The game is kinda vague about it and a lot ppl were confused why Astarion had to sleep with them. It gets worse if we do the math and numbers. Still I think it’s not explicit whether all spawn had to sleep with prey.

@crimzonrite @hellelilancunin Well I remember Astarion said in the game “when you’ve been through all I have, you damn well are going to fight with what few assets the god give you.” It always thought it implied Astarion did choose to use sex to get victims because that’s one of the few assets he got.

@hellelilancunin @crimzonrite Strangely I never thought Cazador commanded all the spawn to sleep with the prey although I know the room and the sex instruction book. My take was they were allowed to do whatever they could to capture prey and seduction is just the most efficient way for most of them.

@crimzonrite I’m halfway there too and I think the book is okay so far. I didn’t really have high expectations in the first place but I never understood the crazy drama around it and I tried to avoid all the noises.

@morphingmache I believe some of them disliked the novel once they saw the plot intro because of the "stranger whose golden eyes can snare even a blackened, undead heart"? I think one of them discoursed with Kingfisher and said no one wanted to see Astarion fu*king others iirc.

I think he was more likely to be upset about Hasbro’s treatment of the WotC team they worked with.

@skarsghardy He was a magistrate for at most ten years or so and he’s been a slave and a vampire spawn for 200 years so I guess it makes sense that his background is charlatan now? Not to say you’re wrong but we cannot tell how he got to be a magistrate from the game imo.

@sundogsnrainbow Yeah I think it’s sorta a patch by WotC. Some players speculated it should be NR not DR since his grave was found but Larian never revised the year in game. Moreover it seems Astarion added 468 DR to the grave which is more confusing cuz it should be 460 NR.

@skarsghardy He's just trying hard to get you to sleep with him. He was not into any deep and long-term connection. He probably thought you were like that as well and his cringe pickup lines usually work for that kind of arrangements. That's the only way he knew back then.
