27 years ago today on 15 July 1999, thirty-nine "street people", homeless and mostly mentally ill, were abducted in #MontegoBay #Jamaica and dumped near a toxic mud lake in St Elizabeth. City officials were implicated but no one was ever found to be criminally liable. The Government accepted responsibility and compensated the survivors with a monthly stipend of J$20,000.
