Greetings from the World Meetei Council!

World Meetei Council reiterates its clear position on the ongoing crisis in Manipur.

It is well known to all that the present unrest was triggered by your attacks on Meetei villages at Torbung in the early afternoon of 3rd May 2023. This calculated move to incite communal violence with the intent of advancing your agenda for a so-called “Kukiland” is not new.

In 2015 too, you attacked Meeteis in Moreh and destroyed property worth crores by arson. Despite such provocations, the Meetei people exercised restraint in the larger interest of peace and harmony.

The Government of Manipur @RajBhavManipur then compensated the losses with a few crores of rupees, which our people accepted in good faith for the greater good of the state. Unfortunately, you have continued to pursue a divisive and destructive path.

Your repeated attempts to impress upon the Government of India(video clip attached below) - or even foreign governments by claiming yourself as a “lost tribe of Israel” - do not change the reality. India government is fully aware of the truth of your immigrant origins and your separatist intentions.

Let it be clearly understood:

1. There will be no division of Manipur. The integrity of the state is non-negotiable.

2. Meeteis are democratic by nature. Different voices may exist among us, but on the core issue of the state's integrity, we stand firm.

3. National interest guides nation's policy. No amount of opportunistic propaganda can alter this fact.

History has tested the Meetei people for more than 2,000 years. We have endured repeated misfortunes but emerged stronger every time. Do not underestimate this resilience.

WMC stresses that our call for dialogue was never out of fear. Rather, it was - and remains - an opportunity to find a peaceful way forward so that ordinary people are not made to suffer under false promises and illusions (Kangpokpi photo attached).

It is not too late for you to come to your senses. Come and join the path of dialogue, abandon divisive agendas and work together for the good of all communities of Manipur.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested Thanglienlal Hmar alias Boya from Cachar, Assam, in connection with the horrific killings of six Meitei individuals—including a child—in Manipur's Jiribam district last year.

Hmar is accused of playing a crucial logistical role in the abduction and coordinated execution of the victims. His arrest follows targeted raids based on credible intelligence inputs.
