How did we get here?

For you to be part of the President’s team, it sometimes seems you must either have EFCC on your neck, a criminal conviction in your past, or some controversy trailing you.

If this is indeed the new standard for political recruitment, then Nigeria has a much bigger problem than bad governance. We have a crisis of values.

Are Nigerian voters too dumb? I don't think so. Nigerians are not stupid. But we have allowed poverty, ethnic and religious sentiments, patronage, vote-buying, misinformation and the politics of survival to overwhelm our ability to demand higher standards from those entrusted with public power.

Today in Nigeria:

Goats are running the yam barn.
Foxes are looking after the chickens.
Cats are entrusted with the fish basket.

And then we wonder why the yam disappears, the chickens vanish and the fish basket comes back empty.

Who will save us?

Ultimately, we the people must save ourselves.

Because no political party, politician or messiah can rescue a country whose citizens continually surrender their most powerful weapon—their votes—to those who have demonstrated that they cannot be trusted with power.

2027 is another opportunity to reset the standard.

Not tribe.
Not religion.
Not party colours.
Not stomach infrastructure.

Character. Competence. Capacity. Integrity. Accountability.

Nigeria deserves nothing less.
