Interestingly, the market for Leetcode style platforms for all kinds of topics is about to explode.
200 hundred years ago, commercial gyms didn't exist. Most people stayed fit by working in the fields. When machines automated all the labor, we needed to intentionally create situations to exercise our body.
With AI getting so good at math/science, we might get to the point where in order to keep one's mental fitness, professional thinkers (mathematicians, programmers, most any STEM field) start looking to digital gyms to keep them sharp.
Great startup opportunity.
Imagine that every person in the world was given a genie that granted their every wish. Put aside for a minute the potential for harm, and ask yourself a question: would everybody be equally happy?
The answer is no - coming up with the most awesome possible versions of the world takes creativity and imagination. Even if you have a genie, you still have to know what to wish for.
This is the situation we are increasingly finding ourselves in with regard to software. Most applications can be built pretty quickly once the details are hammered out. But what to build?
Learning to mine "idea space" for good wishes is going to become more and more important as the genie grows in capability.
There is lots of discussion lately about the value of executing more and thinking less.
One important thing about thinking as opposed to executing is that thinking "scales" well.
When you're executing, it takes a lot of hours to make progress. There is a never ending list of features, bugs, etc. And the only way to out-compete other people is to work more hours.
The outputs of thinking (designs, writing, stories, etc) can have outsized impact compared to the amount of time that you put into them.
You won't build a unicorn startup with just 3 hours a day, but you can win a Fields medal or write the next great novel.
In an age when AI is so capable of lots of the "doing" there is even more value in changing our habits to spend more time thinking.
@signulll I'm smack in the middle of the "wow so many chances to practice social dexterity" phase. Probably because I'm only now starting to start to see how it might be done.
I can't "see the matrix" yet but at least I'm realizing it's there
@cubinsky@dieworkwear Excellent. Thanks for the rec, this is great.
Now I need to figure out a way to go through his catalog of tweets, there must be lots of great stuff in there.
He really should have like a book or something, would be useful
@radbadgeoffbrad The scale is irrelevant until the complexity is sufficiently high. A very large number times zero is still zero.
If insects are simple enough to be essentially biological robots then they have no moral weight, no matter the number.
@dieworkwear How would you wear tan shoes? I have some Allen Edmonds Park Avenues and penny loafers in their walnut color and I like the color. Doesn't have to be "classic tailored aesthetic" I guess, just "looks good"
@Aella_Girl@StatisticUrban I think the world already *is* like this in a lot of ways. It is generally disadvantageous for people to behave in ways that differ meaningfully from societal norms, especially when taboos are involved.
I don't think it is *good* that the world is like that, but it seems to be.
@novasarc01 So I'm 2.5 chapters through Route C in Nier Automata and I'm not "getting it." The gameplay feels like it sucks and the story is meh?
I want to have the mind blowing experience everyone else is but I don't get it.
@esrtweet@TimNoEgo If you go to any LDS youth dance today, I feel like at least 50% of the playlist would have been on the playlist when I was there 15 years ago.
@esrtweet@megievalist Hold on they at least had an opinion. Sure they inverted the ideology, but they were trying something.
If you had been born in the 90's you'd know it is Eragon
