The votes are in. It will be a total eclipse of the news starting Friday for @Statesman AustinNewsGuild members. Support our strike as we try to keep local news written by local people @gannett#saveourstatesman https://t.co/sjw3YOkPqX
STRIKE ALERT: After yet another bargaining delay from Gannett, @AustinNewsGuild reporters are taking to the picket line on April 5th ✊
Gannett has put corporate profits over its workers for far too long. Let's show these courageous workers some Texas-sized solidarity!
"Instead of investing in the people that build our roads, our schools and this Capitol, our state leaders have chosen to attack our immigrant communities. Work unites us, and every worker deserves dignity and respect."
-Our Deputy Director of Politics and Policy, Ana Gonzalez
"Work is something that unites us, and all workers deserve dignity and respect, regardless of their immigration status."

We will always fight for ALL Texas workers.
A bill that would require rest breaks for all construction workers in Texas has been filed in the #txlege.
@GovAbbott failed the workers who build our state during the regular session. Workers can't wait any longer, we need rest breaks now.
“Poverty doesn’t fly in TX!” @TexasAFLCIO joined @SEIUTX rally at @DFWAirport to demand living wages & basic benefits for Airport service workers. We are FED UP that after working through a pandemic & extreme heat, poverty wages persist. #1u (1 of 3)
HB 2127 has been ruled unconstitutional, but the State is attempting to hold this decision up in court. Texans can't wait.
Demand @GregAbbott_TX does his job to protect the workers who build out state:

“This law was targeting very openly, very basic worker protections that workers and unions and community organizations have fought for for many years."

NOW: We are at the hearing against HB 2127, aka the “Death Star Law.”
Houston has filed a lawsuit against the state of Texas to overturn the law, which goes into effect on September 1st.

“The Death Star Law is the largest transfer of power away from working people and into the hands of a few extreme state lawmakers.” - @Yazmeli, Deputy Director of Politics and Policy at @TexasAFLCIO
@AmandaPosson Unbelievable to hear Sen. Creighton lying about his bill. HB 2127 does impact future ordinances and changes for payday, non discrimination ordinances that go behind federal law and in housing AND OSHA doesn’t not require rest breaks or safety training for construction workers.
We mourn the preventable death of Antelmo Ramirez. All workers deserve to make it home safely to their family at the end of the day.
