Building an app in Bangkok, Thailand. No, it's not what you think.
The problem: Bangkok is awesome for dogs, but finding a pet-friendly cafe is a total gamble. My co-founder Alex and his girlfriend Meaw learned this the hard way with their dachshund, Mushroom.
So we built the beginnings of a solution: MysteryDog App. It’s a verified directory of pet-friendly places. But that's just the start. We're building a community, not just a product.
🔐 Getting @better_auth setup was a breeze. Better Auth config is super simple and made integrating all these social sign-on options incredibly smooth. Seriously, it just works.
Just look at how clean this is
📢 Authentication with all the social sign-on options on @expo powered by @better_auth.
New feature just dropped for MysteryDog
We wanted to make signing in as easy as possible for our users in Bangkok, no matter what platform they use.
Thread below on how we set this up. 👇
MysteryDog: 1,870 Places Uploading In Progress...

~$ That's the sound of thousands of pet-friendly places being migrated.
~$ I wrote a script (with some help from AI, of course) to move all our old data to the new platform.
~$ I'm really hoping it doesn't fail - I'm ready to move on to the next feature.
~$ 21m 5s later, it's done. Our database is complete and ready to go!
Alright, let's talk tech stack for building 🦴 MysteryDog.
The MysteryDog Tech Stack:
📱 Mobile: React Native @expo
🎨 Styling: @nativewindcss
⚙️ Backend: @nextjs
🔗 API: @trpcio
🗂️ ORM: @prisma
💾 Database: PostgreSQL @supabase
🔒 Auth: @better_auth
✉️ Mail: @resend
📈 Analytics: @posthog
🌐 Hosting: @vercel & @awscloud
We're heavily inspired by the T3 Stack, thanks to @theo incredible work, and using a monorepo setup with @turborepo to manage everything.
My favorite part? TypeScript everywhere. It gives us a ton of confidence to ship fast.
I'll share more details on why we chose each piece in the thread below. 👇
We're using Posthog for analytics to understand our users, Resend for transactional emails, and Vercel for our web app's seamless deployments. The goal is to use best-in-class tools that help us move fast.
If you want to see the community-building side of MysteryDog, my co-founder Meaw is already doing an amazing job. Check out her work and say hello!
