Imagine being born gay in Iraq’s Shiite epicenter of Najaf, a city soaking in religious sacredness and strong antagonism towards the LGBT+ community. That is the story of 22-year-old Haydin.
My latest for @thenewregion https://t.co/VkT4kqswNb
I have received info that former employees of Rasan organization have been summoned for testimony in #Sulaimani again over a case filed around two years ago and reopened each time ahead of elections.
The case filed by a former MP of an Islamic political party is against Rasan’s previous work advocating #LGBTQI rights in the #Kurdistan Region and especially in Sulaimani province.
The community, already strangled by societal pressures, live in fear for their lives and criminalizing them further threatens personal freedoms and advocacy work in the Region.
Thank you @wrodgers2 for reporting on a case that our community is still deeply affected by. We have been demanding #JusticeforDoskiAzad for 2 years, and will continue doing so.
