My feed is a wild mix of Al Smith dinner and recaps/quotes from our q&a in the Synod hall last night. I don't have a cogent comment on that mix at the moment, but seeing what was happening home in the US and what was happening in the Synod hall is just.... a lot.
"We have to be real," Bp Flores tells U.S. university students, because you cannot proclaim the Gospel and lead people to Christ without understanding people's reality & that requires listening.
"The Word became flesh. He did not become an idea that's very pretty on the blackboard. And in his flesh, he suffered. And in his flesh, he continues to suffer. What I tell my people back home is, 'Go find him.'"
—Bishop Daniel Flores at #Synod2024 on ideal formation for ministry
@KenHomanSJ Spent 1 year working with folks needing IDs. Before that I had no idea how many people didn't have one or couldn't afford one or didn't even know where to start. It absolutely suppresses people in poverty (esp housing insecurity) from accessing A LOT of things, including voting.
Being part of the leadership team for this course is something I am humbled by and grateful for. This spiritual work for racial justice is the good kind of hard and what the Church and its people need more of. Our students are everything.
Dr. Karen Ross, Director of Pathways@CTU, writes in @NCRonline about the spiritual work of racial justice and why it matters for ministry. Dr. Ross and Dr. @CVanessaWhite led a new racial justice pilgrimage course for graduate students this past May.

I recently asked for Catholic Trump voters willing to be interviewed for a story for @NCRonline. Thanks to all who responded! However, they were all men, so I'm now looking for women. Contact me at hschlumpf AT ncronline DOT org if you're willing to be interviewed. Thanks!
