Senior journalist Sreenivasan Jain expresses shock after witnessing a woman journalist being detained by Delhi Police while covering protests in the national capital.
Speaking to DeKoder, Jain says the reporter had identified herself, was carrying her press credentials and was visibly equipped with a microphone. Despite repeated objections from Jain and other journalists present, he says police took her away.

Jain alleges that the detention happened under the supervision of a senior IPS officer and calls the incident “appalling.”
The incident comes hours after the Supreme Court's October 11 hearing, during which the Court recorded an assurance that journalists, lawyers and other professionals would not be obstructed in performing their duties.

Reporters are being stopped from crossing the road to reach the area where people were being detained at Connaught Place. The police cited an SOP for media personnel, claiming that a designated space had been allotted to the press.

The CJP protest is scheduled to begin at 10 am, but by 6:42am, people walking towards Jantar Mantar were already being detained and prevented from reaching the protest site.

Addressing a gathering at Freedom Park in #Bengaluru against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise,Youtuber #DhruvRathee launched a direct attack on the #ElectionCommission of India and the Central government, accusing them of systemic irregularities, arbitrary voter roll manipulation, and operating with zero transparency or accountability.

​Dismissing claims by political opponents that he was attempting to engineer a regime change, Dhruv Rathee clarified that he traveled on his own money without backing from figures like #ElonMusk or #GeorgeSoros, and urged even ruling-party supporters to closely scrutinize the electoral process.

​To substantiate his allegations of administrative opacity, Dhruv Rathee directed demands for accountability to Chief Election Commissioner #GyaneshKumar, Prime Minister #NarendraModi, and Union Home Minister #AmitShah, citing specific regional examples. In #WestBengal, he claimed roughly 70,000 legitimate voters were struck from rolls before assembly polls under the pretense of being deceased or foreign infiltrators, only to be reinstated once voting had concluded. Regarding #Bihar, he raised the deletion of nearly 6.5 million names, asserting that voter identities were hidden until the Supreme Court intervened. In #UttarPradesh, he cited reporting by The Reporters' Collective regarding the unexplained addition of around 1.4 million names without public disclosure of who was enrolled, while also noting software-related exclusions in #Goa that blocked over 100 eligible voters.

​Concluding his address to the assembled crowd,Dhruv Rathee maintained that voter additions and deletions are being executed arbitrarily at administrative whim, entirely devoid of independent oversight.

Several protesters were detained in Delhi on Friday as a demonstration against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar unfolded amid heavy police restrictions.

The protest, organised by the All India Students’ Association (AISA) along with civil society groups, was announced by AISA president Neha Bora, with activists and public figures including Yogendra Yadav among those backing the call.

But protesters were stopped from entering the designated protest site at Jantar Mantar. Police told them they did not have permission to enter the area, following which several protesters were detained.

In an interview with The Quint, Bora spoke about the police action, the restrictions on the protest and why the groups are demanding accountability from the Election Commission.

The protest comes amid growing criticism of Kumar following reports about disagreements within the Election Commission over decisions linked to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
