منصة #مسارات_المصالحة هي مبادرة وطنية مستقلة يمثلها أشخاص من عدة مناطق من #اليمن ويعملون على توضيح وتمثيل مخاوف ومصالح وآراء اليمنيين حول المصالحة والسلام.

Given the current turmoil that is threatening to rip the country apart, wanted to share an important and timely report we just released on the Impact of the Conflict on Social Cohesion and Reconciliation in #Yemen

The report, which I co-authored with @IvanShalev and Raiman A-Hamdani, presents findings from an extensive consultation conducted by the amazing local coordinators of the @YemenPathways initiative and the @Eurpeace, reaching 1,988 participants across seven governorates, Aden, al-Dhale’e, al-Hodeidah, al-Maharah, Ma’rib, Shabwah, and Taiz.

The report focuses on five key objectives:

1- Assessing conflict’s impact on trust, cooperation, and shared values in Yemeni communities.

2- Understanding local perceptions of social cohesion in relation to peace, security, and well-being.

3- Identifying regional patterns and priorities, including youth engagement, education, economic recovery, and conflict resolution.

4- Highlighting gaps and opportunities in current reconciliation initiatives.

5- Providing actionable recommendations to strengthen social ties and peacebuilding efforts, tailored to community needs.

The report is truly the outcome of
the serious dedication and commitment of the Local Coordinators in #Yemen to
their communities and the mission of elevating local voices and identifying pathways for reconciliation.

The Pathways for Reconciliation Platform held a virtual meeting with 40 participants from Al-Hodeidah to explore how “Meeting the basic needs of citizens will contribute to peace.” Participants identified and discussed several key issues as illustrated below:

Al-Hodeidah has a strategic location in the west of the country on the coasts of the Red Sea. It is a main entry point for the majority of humanitarian aid and at the same time a highly contested area in the current conflict. #Yemen #PathwaysforReconciliation

Issues identified included large scale displacement; high unemployment rates; deterioration of basic services; high rates of malnutrition; landmines; illiteracy and school dropouts/child labor due of poverty and insecurity; and difficulty of movement.

Al-Maharah has remained far from the main conflict which leads internally displaced Yemenis to seek safety in Al-Maharah from the prevailing violence in the rest of Yemen, however, according to the local coordinators it also has its own challenges and priorities.
