Seeing a favorite movie from my childhood with my young son is amazing even if I have to give him a running commentary on the patriarchy, sexism and classism in some of them and how they reflected the mores then and how we need evolve. Realize it was normalized then and even now
What a beautiful statement of solidarity and humanity. I am proud of these organizations and grateful to the museum and the community of care behind the Nakba exhibit. Can’t wait to see it next time I’m in Winnipeg.
I tell myself every day: Don’t die. Don’t get tired.
Check on the children. Look for water. Check if there are any holes in the tent so the water doesn’t leak in. Then stand up—don’t die.
Don’t you dare die from some silly illness. Resist. Save your tears for a more painful day. Don’t you dare say, “I’m tired.”
Look for food. Don’t be afraid of the bombing. Gather your things and flee. Set up a tent. Flee again—don’t get tired.
Write, and then write, and then write. Write your own death with your own hands—don’t let anyone write about you.
Live, and don’t die.
You must have heard the story about the drunk man looking for his lost keys under a streetlight even though he knows he dropped them elsewhere, simply because: "That is where the light is".
Much of Indian news media is like the drunk man. They go after the Opposition and its leaders knowing very well that the problem lies elsewhere, simply because: "that is where where it is safest to criticize and attack."
I am very happy that a fellow Indian has this courage and sincerity. But can't understand what's the pressing reason for the anchor to cut him short. What other issue can take precedence over a genocide? They can surely accommodate a few extra words.
History will remember Justice S. Muralidhar as someone who spoke the truth when it mattered most. He stand as a beacon, long after the cowards are forgotten. 🕊️
All We Imagine As Light, Homebound, All That Breathes, Ikkis, Nocturnes, Main Vaapas Aaunga, Tumbbad, Sairat, Asuran, The Great Indian Kitchen, Sabar Bonda... so many more. (Not even getting into streaming and web series in this brief post!)
It feels incredibly uplifting to know that India has brilliant film-makers — and audiences who love their work. Give it time. The other country is still there, still breathing.

The Modi govt transferred him at midnight to shut him up.
He became the UN judge who just ruled Israel deliberately killed 20,000 children in Gaza.
Justice Srinivasan Muralidhar's story is something else.
The ugly fangs of the SIR are coming to the fore yet again. It is not just preventing lakhs of people from exercising their constitutional right to vote, but is also emerging as a tool to determine citizenship in furtherance of the BJP's divisive Hindutva agenda.
Right from the outset, the CPI(M) had warned that the SIR exercise would disenfranchise the poor and vulnerable sections of our country. But now, even an editor of repute and an acclaimed journalist like R Rajagopal has been denied his right to vote.
After being struck off the electoral rolls, he is unable to renew his passport for the very reason of not being on the voters list! What sort of a cruel joke are those in power playing with the lives and rights of India's citizens?
This cannot be allowed to pass. All those who cherish democracy and value citizens' inalienable rights should come out in protest against the SIR, which has been opposed by all opposition parties. The republic has to be reclaimed!
Palestinian Canadians live and pay taxes in Canada because Israel made them refugees by stealing their land and murdering their families. Israel continues to murder Palestinians on a daily basis.
Indeed, context does matter, Rachael. Your anti-Palestinian racism is the context.
After convicting a lynch mob, a judge becomes communal campaign’s target — Judge Tabassum Khan had sentenced 14 men to life imprisonment for the killing of truck driver Sheikh Lala Nazir Ahmed. https://t.co/8fml3tIWLW
"The old orthodox Hindu does not think that there is anything wrong in the observance of untouchability. To him it is a normal and natural thing. As such, it neither calls for expiation or explanation.
The new modern Hindu realises the wrong but HE IS ASHAMED TO DISCUSS IT IN PUBLIC for fear of letting the foreigner know that Hindu Civilization can be guilty of such a vicious and infamous system or social code as evidenced by untouchability"
~Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar
This morning, I attended a press briefing held by Ms. Rachel on the impact of the genocide and ethnic cleansing on Palestinian children, following the release of the new UN Commission of Inquiry report on Palestinian children, which concluded that Palestinian children have been deliberately targeted, killed, and subjected to grave violations at the hands of the Israeli military.
The event hosted Sara, a Palestinian child, speaking about her experience living under Israeli occupation and the right to a safe childhood and life, and Dr. Mimi Syed, an emergency medicine physician who served in Gaza, and Chris Sidoti, Commissioner for the Independent International Commission of Inquiry.
They collectively called for action by all peoples of conscience to act, to pressure states and governments to hold Israel accountable for its crimes against Palestinian children. Including ending arms transfers to the state of Israel and pushing for unrestricted humanitarian aid and medical supplies to enter Gaza.
The genocide against Palestinian children in Gaza must end. The daily bombings, airstrikes, and sniper gunshot fire that specifically target and kill children must end. The conditions that have been made unliveable in Gaza must be addressed as preventable deaths continue as part of the ongoing genocide in Gaza. We all have a collective responsibility to end the genocide in Gaza.

The Azim Premji Foundation pledged 1500 crores of its own funds over three years to provide eggs to kids in mid day meals in Karnataka. They’re the reason kids in Karnataka get eggs 6 days a week.
But they’re rarely hyped up in the way iskon is
In an Indian cricket match first the crowd would beat him up. Then the police would file an FIR against him. And the CM of the state would call him a foreign agent anti national and order an inquiry. Media would call it master stroke.
Justice S. Muralidhar - Someone I admire so much on professional front. Having held his integrity from ordering against Rioter like @KapilMishra_IND and facing sudden midnight transfer to P&H HC , now serving as a Senior Advocate in SC and making India proud by heading as a UN Commissioner of HRs. I am in awe of his work, his journey and so so inspired by him as a lawyer in her initial years of practise .
The exhibit titled, “Palestine Uprooted: Nakba Past and Present” at the Canadian human rights museum in Winnipeg opens tonight. The online exhibit is now live for viewing: https://t.co/yHcFfIZYZx
The @globeandmail has published 3 negative stories about the @CMHR_News's Nakba Exhibit this week.
One is an op-ed, while two news stories summarize the objections of the Israel lobby.
Th piece offering a lukewarm defense of the exhibit is written by a 'progressive Zionist.'
Vegetarianism by force...that's what the Modi govt and its chamcha subsidiaries in states are trying to impose on a multicultural India. A section of Indian kids are among the most nutritionally deprived in the world. Yet eggs are being removed from their free midday meals. Shame
the world is psychotic when "world leaders" stand by and support israel! "world leaders" are sadists when they keep their silence on the face of a genocide. "world leaders" have lost their moral authority when they stay silent as more than 20000 children are murdered
