David Friedberg: It's not rich vs poor, it's makers vs takers.
@friedberg:
“ The great lie is that there are two sides to society, that is the rich and the poor.
And the great truth is that there are two sides that are the makers and the takers.
The lie is that the rich are unfairly rich and the poor are unfairly poor, and therefore, the poor must take from the rich.
But the truth is that it's the takers that tell you that lie, that the real truth is that artists, plumbers, electricians, woodworkers, computer scientists, people that build, people that make from all walks of life, all income levels, all wealth brackets, are the makers.
And the takers are what Sacks calls this intelligentsia, the analysts, the espousers, the armchair mechanics, the critics, the commentators, the politicians. They are the takers.
They are the people that watch the rest of society make stuff, build stuff, specifically doing things that create value for other people in society. That's what a maker is.”
I would like to see you make a voluntary contribution of 5% of your family’s $200M net worth to the government for important healthcare, childcare, and jobs. Don’t worry, it’s just one-time. Your $10M contribution will provide free childcare for over 1,000 California kids for a year! Once you’ve made your personal contribution to a more just and equitable society, I’ll support all your other asset seizure ideas. But you gotta go first…
Story time! 🧵
Wanna know how I bought a house in Berkeley on a service worker's salary?
Rent control!
(This was back when council members actually lived in Berkeley & cared about the entire community's well-being).
Yearly allowable rent hikes while I was saving up:
Lego is boring.
Enter BYLT - real construction using real practices. From architect drawn blueprints to finished product... on a tiny scale.
Get your kit or order a la carte from the supply yard 👇
The US should probably remove at least 75% of local, state, and federal regulations we have in place right now and completely eliminate all discretionary review for getting permits.
'Progressive' solutions to rising rent is to freeze it or control it. But I want to 𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳 it.
That will only happen with more housing. Build it and build it now.
The map for Scott Wiener last night doesn't really track prog vs. mod, it tracks YIMBY vs. NIMBY. The bulk of precincts that went for Chan were conservative, high-homeownership, low-density areas on the West Side.
Election Day on the T to Chinatown. Let’s ramp up federal support for transit so we can do things like extend the T to North Beach & Fisherman’s Wharf & west to the Richmond!
Huge priority for me in Congress. I’ll go to the mat for transit as I always have.
I can’t believe it’s been six years since I left tech to start @GrowSF.
In that time, we’ve been fortunate to help win some important elections and contribute to San Francisco’s turnaround. The city has made real progress, but the work is far from done.
The early results tonight are looking great, but we’ve had some close losses so I’m not celebrating yet. Hoping for the best so we can keep the momentum going!
@terronk Pretty homophobic statement for a guy who sucks dick and kisses his own kids the next morning. Leave Scott out of your mouth. At least his name. Fuckin nimby.
The recall Joel campaign is straight-up nativist. Claiming in their recent ad Joel wants “a different type of people, a new demographic” with “different values.” That’s ugly. That’s dangerous. That’s not San Francisco. 🗳️ Vote No on A!
Blue state NIMBYism is an existential threat now.
The love of process and "neighborhood character" is just giving red states more power. Elections and zoning have consequences.
@MHurabiell@EricaJSandberg@DanielLurie@SFMTA_Muni Cool. More bike, scooter and moped haters trying to point the finger. You can survive a bicycle crash much easier than a car crash. Cars are the leading cause of death.
