@constans@reputationfan13 Disney is also the only place most Americans get to experience a walkable street, maybe we just need to get Disney adults into urbanism and they’ll become normal
Coalville is an unfortunate case - cursed with bad transport links to Leicester (the fastest bus takes over an hour to go about 13 miles). This could be solved by reopening the Ivanhoe Line, but the government have shelved it. Typical lack of ambition. #LeicestershireLoop
The new #HS2 bridge over Lawley Middleway is absolutely humongous up close. Incredible piece of infrastructure - can’t wait to see the ‘Bellingham Bridge’ over the Cross City Line slid into place soon.
@exit_everything@amazonmilkfrog Technically Cardiff hasn’t opened any street running bits yet, although they’re doing the early works required to start the first project - and the new tram-trains should be entering service this year.
@JackDunc1@Polymarket It’s funny because geographers came up with a new metric - Human Development Index (HDI) - because GDP is such a poor indicator of what life is like somewhere. And the U.K. would be 9th in HDI if it was a US state.
@jordanbhx It’s so insanely stupid to have built the most expensive bit of a tram line through the city centre and then leave it cut short instead of building a relatively cheap extension that would make the whole thing twice as useful.
@hdiashid@EleanoraStats Switzerland has a pretty terrible political system (women couldn’t even vote until 1971!) and pretty much coasts along on the back of having the world’s most perfect setup for a stable society with high living standards. They don’t often need to make actually important decisions.
@312Slamdoor@BareLeft Sure, it’s just annoying that if I want a cheaper ticket I have to get on a train that is really full instead of one that has plenty of free seats.
@sallonsax There’s a big one happening in Newcastle-under-Lyme right now! Hopefully this sparks more across the country, there are so many awful ugly multi-storeys out there. https://t.co/5eEimdewFX
@PeverellTom@achillghost Quite nice/quite good can, depending on tone, also be a lukewarm backhanded compliment; as in ‘I expected that to be shit but it turned out to be passable’
