Beijing has just brought the full force of the so-called National Security Law down on the heads of three teenagers. This is the true face of authoritarian China @ipacglobal@DominicRaab
Now unconfirmed reports emerging that other members of @studentlocalism have also been arrested, including former spokesperson Ho Luk-chang (何諾恆). As yet unverified, also unclear if arrested under the National Security Law or not.
Grainy photos are starting to emerge on Telegram purporting to show 19-year-old Tony Chung (鍾翰林), former convenor of HK pro-democracy group @studentlocalism being arrested by state security agents (de facto secret police) on suspicion of inciting secession. 1984 is here & now.
Tony was arrested for "inciting secession" after he wrote a FB post on #China's nationalism. Meanwhile, arrestees' mobile phones were hacked by unknown #Huawei and #Samsung phones soon after their arrests. Tonight's arrest will clearly send a chilling effect on #HK online speech.
Breaking: #Beijing staged its first major round of arrests under #Nationalsecuritylaw tonight. Former convenor of the disbanded @studentlocalism, Tony Chung, and another two former members, were arrested by #SecretPolice”. Tony's been tailed for days.
White terror, politics of fear dispersed in Hong Kong under National Security Law. This is the first case that an individual is arrested on the doorstep under #NSL. It targets activists and quashes freedom of expression of HK people. Please be aware of it.
Activists from all over the world are taking part in our #FridaysForFreedom action to stop the #NationalSecurityLaw.
Take a picture with a sign saying "#FreeHongKong" in front of a Chinese Embassy (or in your living room)!
