Pleased to receive a courtesy call from H.E. Matthew Baugh, the UK High Commissioner to Kenya.

I conveyed my sincere appreciation for the support the UK Government extended to us during our recent Nairobi Metropolitan Police Unit benchmarking tour, which provided valuable insights.

We also explored ways of deepening our partnership in various areas such as border management, technology exchange, training, and public order.

I'm a funeral director. Nineteen years. You'd think after that long, very little would surprise you. You're wrong.

Last year a father called me after losing his wife in a car accident. Gone instantly. He had a request I'd never heard before.

"I want my seven-year-old twins to see her before the funeral." I hesitated.

Most families shield children from that. His voice cracked. "They keep asking when Mommy is coming home. They still think this is temporary.

I don't know how to help them understand." I spent hours preparing her. More carefully than usual. Not because the work was different.

Because the visitors were. I've prepared thousands of people over the years. That day felt different.

When the twins arrived, they climbed onto a small step stool beside their mother's casket.

The little girl reached for her hand first. Pulled back slightly. "She's cold." Their father knelt beside them. Fighting tears. "Yes, sweetheart.

Kenya and the United Kingdom enjoy a longstanding and strategic partnership in matters of security, governance and law enforcement.

Today in London, I met the UK Secretary of State for the Home Department Rt. Hon. Shabana Mahmood.

We explored cooperation in the establishment of the Nairobi Metropolitan Police Unit, as we seek to leverage the UK's Metropolitan Police Service's institutional experience, and decades of operational excellence.

We also discussed matters of mutual interest, including the Kenya-UK strategic partnership framework and security compact.

I was accompanied by Nairobi City County Governor Johnson Sakaja, National Government Coordination PS Ahmed Ibrahim, Kenya’s High Commissioner to the UK Amb Maurice Makolo and Deputy Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli, among other officials.

Earlier today, I was pleased to receive H.E. Matt Baugh, British High Commissioner to Kenya, for a productive discussion on strengthening the enduring Kenya–United Kingdom partnership.

We explored opportunities for enhanced cooperation, including institutional capacity building ahead of the 2027 General Election, and reaffirmed our shared commitment to democratic governance, peace, stability, and sustainable development. We also underscored the importance of deepening parliamentary diplomacy in pursuit of our common aspirations for prosperity and international peace.

I reaffirmed my unwavering commitment, and that of the National Assembly, to supporting the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in the discharge of its constitutional mandate, including ensuring the provision of adequate resources through the parliamentary appropriation process to facilitate the delivery of free, fair, transparent, verifiable, and credible elections.

He arrived quietly. Stamped his authority loudly. Then left quietly. Like the true champion he is.

Meeting him in the company of his coach Claudio Berardelli and Manager Eric Lilot, his calm and self-effacing demeanor wouldn’t give away the history he had just written. As we continue to rightly congratulate Sawe, we also salute the men and women- fellow athletes and others who made this moment possible.

Unknown to many, a marathon is a team sport. Behind every conquering athlete is a team of coaches, physiotherapists, nutritionists, pacers- people who inspire, motivate, encourage and if necessary challenge the runner.

Together with Mr. Maxwell Nyamu of @athletics_kenya 🇰🇪, I expressed the gratitude of the @KenyaMissionUK and the entire Kenyan diaspora in the UK to Sawe, his coach, manager and other athletes for the honour they have given to our country.

May plenty be found within our borders!
