NIGERIA UPDATE: God bless Minister Chris Musa for being a breathe of fresh air. May Almighty God help him in his honest quest for real security. This interview should rebroadcast with English Language translation as a matter of urgency. - @elrufai
Many social media influencers claimed an attack in the Nigerian city of Jos in March was targeting Christians – but #BBCAfricaEye has found that both Muslims and Christians were killed, and that authorities have yet to establish a motive.

I am pleased to announce that the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, through the Nigerian Youth Academy (NiYA), is partnering with Cascador to launch the NiYA × Cascador Founders Programme, a new initiative that will prepare young Nigerian entrepreneurs for investment and provide up to ₦5 million each in non-dilutive funding to top-performing young founders.
This partnership is the direct outcome of our engagements with Cascador, including the follow-up meeting I hosted on 29 April, where we explored how their experience supporting Nigerian entrepreneurs could align with our broader youth development agenda. What began as a conversation around the table has now become a practical opportunity for young Nigerians.
Under the pilot programme, selected early-stage youth founders will undergo an intensive four-week programme covering business fundamentals, investment readiness, pitch preparation and one-on-one mentorship. At the end, the top-performing founders will each receive up to ₦5 million in non-dilutive funding from Cascador, alongside an Enterprise Resource Planning solution to help them structure, manage and scale their businesses.
This is very important to me because our engagements as a Ministry must ultimately translate into opportunities that young Nigerians can see, access and benefit from. Meetings are necessary, but the real measure of engagement is what comes out of them. When we sit with the private sector, development partners and investors, our objective is not the meeting itself; it is to build relationships that can unlock opportunities for Nigerian youth.
This partnership also advances the philosophy behind NiYA. We do not want to stop at training. We want to build a stronger bridge from learning to enterprise, from ideas to investment readiness, and from potential to sustainable businesses. Importantly, this pilot recognises that talented young Nigerians should not be excluded simply because they are still at an early stage or do not yet have the financial history and networks that traditionally open doors to capital.
Twenty founders may be the starting point, but the bigger objective is to develop a model that can be tested, strengthened and expanded. We want an ecosystem where a young Nigerian's opportunity to succeed is increasingly determined by the strength of the idea, readiness to learn and ability to execute; not simply by background or connections.

How Ummulkhairi, an Islamic teacher, was killed in Jos by mobs.
Translation:
They killed an Islamic teacher, a married woman, in front of authorities, her scholars, and in front of the public, based on an allegation for which there was no evidence. #Thread#JusticForUmmulkhairi
It was an honor to join HE the Governor of Jigawa, Malam Umar Namadi FCA @uanamadi, on a courtesy visit that felt deeply personal. As a daughter of Jigawa, returning home in service to the nation and seeing the real progress of the AGILE Project was both humbling and encouraging.
From 1,360 rehabilitated classrooms to 694 motorized boreholes and over 75,000 sets of furniture distributed across schools, the impact on children's daily lives is visible and measurable.
Over 11,000 adolescent girls are now benefiting from life skills programmes supported by trained mentors, and 100 senior secondary schools are equipped with digital learning tools, preparing our learners for the future. The conditional cash transfer programme continues to reduce the financial barriers keeping girls out of school, while 27 alternative education centres are already turning vulnerable and out-of-school girls into confident, skilled young women.
Jigawa has been selected as a pilot state for the LUMINAH 2030 Initiative, and that choice was deliberate. The commitment here is consistent, visible, and deeply felt. Every girl deserves the opportunity I had and even more. If hope can rise here in Jigawa, it can rise across Nigeria.
God does not bless any conflict. Anyone who is a disciple of Christ, the Prince of Peace, is never on the side of those who once wielded the sword and today drop bombs. Military action will not create space for freedom or times of #Peace, which comes only from the patient promotion of coexistence and dialogue among peoples.
UROMI-16 is a powerful documentary that confronts some of Nigeria’s most critical issues, injustice, community vulnerability, rising insecurity, and the painful realities families face when innocent lives are taken. Through this documentary film, we shed light on a tragedy that shook the nation, urging viewers to reflect on the deeper systemic challenges that continue to plague our society.
Stay tuned.
On 27.3.25, sixteen hunters from Kano were burned down on the street of Uromi community in Edo in an unfortunate “jungle justice” incident.
Today, i am announcing this documentary “Uromi-16: The Story” that revisits the tragedy one year later.

Let me educate you small, though, I know, you will do shalaye or threaten me with writ. You can twist it all you want, but no sane Northerner supports a group that kidnap, maim, and killed his wives, brothers, sisters, children. That is the daily reality of many people down there. Some have taken it upon themselves to protect their family (a job of a government, both state and federal).
But, here is the argument: An “average Northerner” who has lived with insurgency for decades understands something that many external observers often overlook: terrorism is not simply a military problem, it is a political, social, and economic challenge. External military intervention alone even by a global superpower with advanced technology has not historically ended terrorism in places where structural instability persists. This pattern is true of U.S. counterterrorism efforts in the Middle East and South Asia and will likely hold in Nigeria if strategies focus solely on kinetic solutions.
An average northerner knows the U.S. “war on terror” can disrupt, but the overall level of global terrorism is higher today than before 9/11. You know Nigeria’s problem is poor governance, economic exclusion, internal conflict, and social fragmentation, and that, in fragile states create fertile ground for extremist ideologies and insurgencies to arise or re-emerge even after military defeats.
The reality, known to many Nigerians in the North, long before the spread of social media, is that the United States has never truly eradicated terrorism in any major conflict zone where it has deployed significant military force. This pattern stretches across Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya, and Yemen — and there is no clear evidence that Nigeria will be an exception.
There is Christian genocide in Benue, Plateau, part of Niger, full blown terrorism in Borno where few days ago suicide bombing took place, but US decided that strike a farm close to residential buildings, an eye witness said no one was killed, and many civilians injured, because there was no known terrorist camp, not talk of ISIL presence, just like there was WMD in Iraq prior to US invasion.
As I said, people like you will forever love to see Northern Nigeria in ruins just to prove a point!
