A citizen, who was stuck in the rubble for nearly two days, have been successfully rescued alive today by local rescue team and Singaporean rescue team at Thapikung block of Zamyothiri township in Naypyitaw - the political capital of Myanmar.

Myanmar earthquake's scared reality

The pains, suffering and agony of the affected families are immense, beyond what words can express.

In their time of grief and profound sadness, the survivors find support from the monks in Myanmar, who offer blessings and encouragement as the survivors sit and kneel down before the bodies of their loved ones on the street.

These families have faced a double tragedy: they lost their loved ones in a severe natural disaster and have also lost their homes for which the bodies of their loved ones lay on the street before proper burial service.

Despite international rescue teams arriving to aid quake victims, the junta took them to Naypyitaw to assist the regime first. Civilians in affected areas remain neglected. Our people still need helps!

The situation is terrible, with aftershocks continuing, electricity outages in impacted areas, and (almost) no free press on the ground. The majority of local journalists have been exiled following the coup in 2021. With civil war ongoing, there are real concerns about how the junta will respond.

At Mandalay General Hospital, the wards are filled with patients and people injured by the earthquake are awaiting treatment on the hospital compound, according to an individual at the scene.

“From the entrance to the hospital, all I could see was patients scattered everywhere,” a witness reported from inside the compound. “Some were covered in blood, and the doctors couldn’t do anything. There was no room to place patients on hospital beds because the hospital itself was damaged.”

We are only receiving information from other towns in the region now. Sagaing is affected very badly too but the people there do not have internet access.

Junta shut down internet access in many places in Sagaing and Mandalay regions, as the resistance is very strong there.
