In a vacuum ? Probably. But add to this the fact that France fucked up North Africa, they “imported” the first generation of immigrants (slaves?) to fight in Indo-Chine, build railways and infra, and still wanted a piece of Africans wealth and resources, then maybe you’ll get it
What's crazier is the hackers apparently bought the reseller and made them sign a non-disclosure agreement to keep their mouth shut.
So many things wrong here...
I think @Ledger should release a physical legitimacy check by communicating the average weight of the genuine device, extra grams would mean the wallet might be tampered with.
PSA the ledger incident isn't limited to Asia
This is a device purchased in store from an official reseller in Europe (a legitimate device doesn't have any of these cables as can be seen in picture 2)
This even seems to be an old version of the 'spy implant' even though the device was purchased a couple of weeks ago. The newer versions usually hide the implant by the screen so it's easier to miss
What's interesting is that this compromised ledger never transfered funds to an exploiter. Either the device didn't work or they were waiting for a more widespread usage of the comprised devices?
If you own a ledger that didn't directly come from the ledger online store make sure to not just rely on the software genuinely check by ledger but to actually open up the ledger yourself to make sure its original, again there are reported cases in Asia, south America and now Europe as well.
@MagicalTux made some useful videos on how to open the ledger and what to look for.
⚠️ Beware if you use a Ledger hardware wallet, especially if you bought one recently.
Based on information so far, it seems to be localized to a supply chain attack with one vendor. A small number of people probably bought fake (or tampered) Ledgers.
Ledger is one of the most secure and oldest hardware wallets in the industry. Stood the test of time. But these things happen.
I expect and know all BNB ecosystem players (and all industry) to help trace and recover the funds.
