First, let’s take another look at the countdown illustrations that were posted before the series returned.❣️
What if we looked at them from a different perspective? What if the countdown wasn’t just counting down to the release, but also subtly lined up with the chapters we’re reading now?🤔
Day 1 (D-1) could correspond to Chapter 28. This is where Mokyeon had already decided to put an end to everything. He literally turns the clock back to 1:43. Besides representing time reversal, 143 is also commonly used to mean “I Love You.” Maybe this is where his journey toward realizing his feelings truly begins. 1️⃣
Day 3 (D-3) would then match Chapter 30 if we continue counting (Chapter 28 = Day 1, Chapter 29 = Day 2). This is the exact moment shown in the illustration. Mokyeon genuinely believes he’s doing everything for Nanjo. 3️⃣
“You wanted to get rid of him. I did it for you… I know what you truly wanted. So I did what you couldn’t bring yourself to do.”
But Nanjo turns away from him. I’ve always been curious about Mokyeon’s expression in that scene. It almost feels like that’s the moment he begins to realize that nothing has gone the way he expected.
Day 5 (D-5) would then correspond to Season 2, Chapter 2—which is exactly where the story is now. I feel like this illustration reflects Mokyeon’s current emotional state perfectly. He’s completely hit rock bottom. 5️⃣
At the same time, the illustration itself shows Nanjo. That made me wonder: what if the water isn’t meant to be taken literally, but instead symbolizes emotional shock? If Nanjo really finds Mokyeon in this condition in the next chapter, it could be the moment that completely overwhelms him—forcing him to confront his own feelings and everything he’s been trying to ignore.
And this is where things get even more interesting. If we continue this pattern:
Day 6 = Season 2, Chapter 3 (Chapter 33)
Day 7 = Chapter 34
Day 8 = Chapter 35
Day 9 = Chapter 36
Day 10 = Chapter 37
Chapter 37 will be released on August 19. 🔟
Something else came to mind as well. Before this part of the story began, we received this warning:
“Readers who are emotionally vulnerable are advised to proceed with caution, and if it becomes too difficult, we recommend skipping a couple of chapters.”
If we count from where we are now, those “couple of chapters” would roughly bring us to Chapters 35–37. So it made me wonder… what if Chapter 37 is actually where we transition into Nanjo’s memories?
The final illustration–Nanjo lying in his bathtub at home–is still the most mysterious one to me. But if these images really follow the progression of the current chapters, then maybe this final image represents the moment when Nanjo is finally left alone with his thoughts. The water might not symbolize danger at all, but rather a deep dive into his own emotions, regrets, and memories. And perhaps that’s when we’ll finally begin seeing the story from his perspective.
Of course, this is just a theory. But I found it really interesting how the countdown days seem to line up surprisingly well with the current chapters. Maybe I’m just reading too much into it. 😅 But what if these illustrations were actually a roadmap to the events we were always meant to experience?
What do you think? Is this just a coincidence, or could there really be a hidden meaning behind the countdown?😕

Here are my evolving musings on #Borderline. TLDR: Nanjo’s protectiveness toward Sunwha was genuine but it also gave him a moral explanation for his fixation on Mokyeon.
The latest ch. confirmed (to me) the real obstacle between Nanjo & Mokyeon was never Sunwha, it was trust. Nanjo is most comfortable when he can provide, protect & remain in control. He’s wealthy, educated & an executive director who needs to look composed around people who move in the same circles. The author still gives him little cracks in that image. He’s a messy eater. He mumbles to himself. He has childish bursts of anger. His genuine smiles & softened gaze reveal the man beneath the position.
Sunwha probably saw some of that warmth too but Nanjo could remain the person he understood himself to be around him. He was the older provider, protector & top. Sunwha appeared delicate & gentle with him. Nanjo could buy him things, take care of him & feel morally certain about the role he occupied. Mokyeon kept reversing that position.
He made Nanjo receive pleasure & attention from someone he didn’t respect or trust. Nanjo’s discomfort wasn’t simply prejudice against being with a man & switching roles. The author described the fear more like, what if he actually enjoys it? Nanjo is extremely sensitive to pleasure & Mokyeon introduced him to losing control in a way that threatened the composed identity he’d built. Protecting Sunwha may have given Nanjo somewhere to hide from that. He could say he was enduring Mokyeon to keep Sunwha safe instead of asking why Mokyeon held so much of his attention. His concern for Sunwha was real. It also let him turn desire into duty. I think that's why Nanjo kept reminding Mokyeon about their agreement. Mokyeon needed to remember the conditions. Nanjo may have needed to remember the excuse.
Nanjo’s kindness alone can’t prove attraction bc the author says he can show compassion even toward an enemy. Giving Mokyeon a tissue after rejecting his kiss or hugging him when he asked can still come from Nanjo’s basic character. Buying things for both Mokyeon & Sunwha also fits his provider instinct. This is a reach (DON'T JUMP ME LOL) but take the banana earrings. The earring mix-up can reflect their emotional dynamic: Nanjo was willing to give Mokyeon something but he still didn’t understand what Mokyeon actually wanted from him.
The change (diff. from his base kindness) is in what Nanjo began allowing. He went from refusing to owe Mokyeon even a cent to accepting his coffee & a home cooked meal. He went for burgers with him. He let Mokyeon see him act childish. He invited him to stay. He initiated their first real kiss in the shower. He kissed Mokyeon again when Mokyeon confronted him about why he wasn’t sleeping with Sunwha. He kissed him back during the final threesome while Mokyeon was inside him. The author said Nanjo kisses someone when he wants to.
Nanjo didn’t secretly love Mokyeon through all of this. He also didn’t completely hate him. His softened gaze, glances & voluntary intimacy show feelings developing beside resentment & distrust. Mokyeon made him feel stupid bc Nanjo prides himself on judgment & control, yet he kept wanting the one person who gave him every reason not to trust him. Mokyeon was attracted to the least composed version of Nanjo. He saw the polished executive become embarrassed, furious, needy, sensual & completely overwhelmed. Mokyeon was used to being seen as the unstable one, so witnessing Nanjo lose his composure in ways few others could may have made their connection feel private & uniquely his.
Coming from Mokyeon’s history, that access may have started feeling like something that could be taken from him. He’d already lost the family he thought was permanent. Adults minimized what he endured or made their love feel conditional. Now he was falling in love for the first time & had no idea how to tolerate the possibility that Nanjo could still choose someone else.

Chapter 34 analysis and thoughts:
Ouch Nanjoo is admitting that he was arrogant, but while doing so, he remains being arrogant. Mokyeon was in the wrong, and Nanjoo has every right not to forgive him, but the way dice has been cast now, the whole season 2 will probably be centered on Nanjoo's character development and POV.
There's still few months between this moment and the season 2 opening, but I doubt these two have seen much of each other during that period.
Mokeyon must have taken Nanjoo's "Now leave me alone. I never want to see you again," quite literally and steered clear of him.
Until now, Mokyeon’s love has been invasive. But this time, after everything that happened, he finally accepted that loving Nanjo means respecting the one demand he least wants to respect.
So the first genuinely loving thing Mokyeon does is disappearing from Nanjo’s life.
And that silence is one possibility of what will eventually destabilizes Nanjoo in my humble opinion, and make him move. Nanjo is used to Mokyeon being an immovable object. When he finally succeeded in removing him, he may discover that the absence does not feel like the relief he expected.
Meanwhile, Sunhwa must have not stayed in touch with Mokyeon either. He, as well, did say "I'm done with both of you."
I doubt Sunhwa and Nanjo would be seeing each other again. No matter how persistent Nanjo might be, and how money greedy Sunhwa might appear, I actually firmly believe Sunhwa to be the type of character to really be done and through with someone when he says he's done with them. He is also outgoing and good looking and Nanjoo doesn't seem to be the first rich guy he got hooked around his finger, so he'll easily find a substitute.
Which leaves me wondering about Nanjoo's and Mokyeon's reunion. When will they see each other again and how will that relationship pick up again? Mokyeon is in such a terrible state, and I don't see Nanjoo randomly coming up to him after half a year with no rhyme or reason.
The most convincing route is not Mokyeon deciding to chase Nanjo once again, but Nanjo doing so. That reversal is essential. Season one consisted largely of Mokyeon pursuing, provoking and imposing himself while Nanjo denied, endured and reacted. Season two cannot simply repeat that. If their relationship is supposed to change, Nanjo needs to become the person who makes an active choice, and as I said above, season 2 should be about Nanjo and his change, as Mokyeon's already largely changed.
My likely assumption of how they'll meet again is simply an accidental encounter. This would allow Nanjo to see Mokyeon’s deterioration without Mokyeon intentionally using it to gain his sympathy. More importantly I feel like Mokyeon would be the one who attempts to leave immediately in that situation:
Nanjo sees him > Mokyeon apologizes for appearing before him > Mokyeon walks away > Nanjo stops him (or doesn't stop him but can't stop thinking about him and then reaches out to him first)
That act would mark Nanjo’s first genuine choice of Mokyeon.
