Today, I joined Vice-Chancellors of Federal Universities across the country to formally roll out the University Advancement Initiative — a decisive step towards building financially resilient, globally competitive and future-ready Nigerian universities.
At this convening, the Federal Ministry of Education (HME) signed an MoU with the Nigeria Higher Education Foundation (#NHEF) to strengthen university advancement capabilities across our federal universities. This partnership will focus on capacity development, structured alumni and stakeholder engagement systems, and the adoption of internationally recognised best practices tailored to the Nigerian context.
Our federal universities remain the backbone of national development, but the demands they face today require smarter, diversified and sustainable funding models beyond traditional public financing alone. University advancement is not just fundraising; it is a structured system that strengthens philanthropy, industry partnerships, governance, credibility and long-term sustainability.
The FME @NigEducation fully supports this initiative. Government remains committed to public funding, while enabling transparency, accountability and strong public-private partnerships that will help our universities thrive.
Together, we can build federal universities that are sustainable, impactful and nationally transformative, fully aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President @officialABAT, GCFR.
