Depressing reading. 200,000 jobs lost already in one industry and many more to come if @10DowningStreet doesn’t act soon to reopen business #events which can be safely run. All our cities are impacted financially by the loss of them. @BBCBreakfast@BBCBusiness@SkyNews
@RishiSunak We take it from Parliamentary coverage, large exhibition/conference venues (those which host gatherings of a scale suspended since March 20) are eligible for the JSS closed scheme. Please confirm yes. #AskRishi
@RishiSunak answering questions on Thursday regarding the new job support schemes. A chance to add your voice @shaunhinds@thenec @olympia_london @mcr_central@ExCeLLondon @YEventCentre @ACCLiverpool for clarity on below question whilst we are all closed with no reopen date.
#AskRishi We take it from Parliamentary coverage, large exhibition/conference venues (those which host gatherings of a scale suspended since March 20) are eligible for the JSS closed scheme. Please confirm yes.
@ZacGoldsmith perhaps you could help raise this issue? Another disaster of this pandemic, feels like we have gone right back to a disposable culture after so much hard work all together in the last few years to improve our habits.
Should disposable facemasks be banned?
They've been littering our streets and now they've even been seen washed up on a beach. One conservation group estimates that ten million masks a month could end up in the environment. So should we be sticking to re-usable ones instead?
And #events industry is still stuck in limbo. Venues, hotels, performers, production crew & entire supply chain unable to work and unsure what or if they qualify for support. Nov is a week away & still waiting for details of JSS, headlines alone don’t pay wages! @RishiSunak
What’s more there are huge grey areas in Tier 3 (and in all Tiers) with businesses closed in all but name.
What’s about restaurants in Tier 3? Not formally closed but ...
Or hotels and visitor economy in Tier 3 with travel advised against? Not formally closed but ...
@mrdanwalker@OliverDowden Why is the UK the only European country not currently allowing exhibitions, trade shows and conferences to run, when we already have the DCMS-approved safety guidance ready to go?
@mrdanwalker@OliverDowden Does he look after #business events & exhibitions? Unclear if it’s him or @AlokSharma_RDG & it would be good to actually know as it seems the sector is a hot potato bouncing around with no one taking responsibility! Economic value £32 billion annually & 600k + jobs at stake
@joepike Agree with this point. It’s very hard to support and trust the government regulations if they don’t effectively support financially. Without financial support it’s just a case of swapping one risk for another. Both equally dreadful.
This seems helpful and genuine. Let’s hope this stops some of the terrible job losses we are seeing at the moment & prevents more business from being thrown on the Covid scrap pile. #WeMakeEvents I hope this helps our sector until we can reopen🙏🏼
