I wondered if I might be stepping out of line or drawing too much attention to myself. Still, out of gratitude for you coming to our shop for such a long time, I really wanted to say goodbye today. (Even though I feel like you’d say this is cringe..)

Whenever you had to book last-minute due to sudden overseas trips or event schedules, you always said, 'I'm sorry for reaching out so suddenly,' but I was actually always grateful and happy that you thought of me whenever you needed. Samsung spent years turning an awkward engineering experiment into something you can actually live with. Apple looked at that finished shape, copied the passport form factor almost exactly, then poured their usual software sauce on top. The transitions look prettier. That’s real.

But calling the Fold 8 an idiot because Apple finally showed up with better animations feels backwards. Samsung had to invent the category, absorb all the early creases, battery compromises, and software gaps, and keep shipping until the hardware itself felt normal. Apple got to skip that part and start at “make it feel expensive.” That’s not the same as redefining the product.

I use iPhone every day so I get why the Duo’s polish hits different. Still doesn’t mean Samsung was just muddling through. They were the ones doing the unglamorous iteration so Apple could arrive later and make it look effortless.
