📢 Major Iron Age discovery! This incredible collection of over 800 objects was buried around 2,000 years ago.

Discovered in 2021, it was carefully excavated in 2022 by a team of archaeologists from @durham_uni, with advice from the @britishmuseum and grant funding from us.

Today I had a fantastic time leading a fossil walk for a women's support group as part of @yorkshiremuseum's Mary Anning exhibit!

Providing fossil hunting opportunities for people who don't normally have them is a brilliant way to honour her legacy!

New acquisition alert! This tiny silver gilt badge is long just 12mm and weighs only 0.6g. It was found by a metal detectorist in 2019 at Acaster Malbis near York. 🧵

Hundreds of pilgrim badges of different saints are known from across Britain. Most are made from cheap lead alloys making these precious metal badges a bit special. We have two other silver badges from Yorkshire including this one of St George found at Overton.
