TOMORROW X TOGETHER JAPAN OFFICIAL MAGAZINE 2026 Interview - #HUENINGKAI#휴닝카이
Q. this time you had a shoot as a creator. if you were to work at a filming studio, is there a role you'd want to try?
🐧 honestly, I often think it would be fun to try planning a music video or being a filming director. for example, being like I want to shoot the music video for 'Stick With You' which we released this year. because it's something I've never done before, I don't know if it'd turn out well, but I'm thinking I want to take on the challenge. taking on various challenges will improve my overall personal skills too. finding inspiration to wake up those artistic senses is super important, so I think trying out a bunch of different things first is key.
Q. if you had to pick one essential item for a city boy?
🐧 the very first thing that comes to mind when I hear the word "city boy" is a suit. formally, I don't really wear suits that often, but I feel like an opportunity to wear one will come eventually. wearing a suit to commute to work or attending a wedding in a suit is literally so cool. sadly, I don't own a custom-tailored suit yet, but I do have ready-to-wear ones. because suits have this sophisticated vibe, just wearing one naturally boosts your confidence. our members have amazing proportions, so I think suits look great on all of them.
Q. just like the theme of this shoot 'city boy', please tell us about your own personal and hardcore tastes.
🐧 when it comes to working on songs, I think the melody is the most important thing, so I'm super stubborn about melodies. lyrics are obviously important too, but because the melody is what catches your ear first, I feel like the melody matters more. song inspiration randomly pops up a lot of times, so I'm always recording or taking notes so I can write them down anytime. there are so many times where an idea randomly hits me while taking a shower, and honestly those ideas actually help a lot more with my songwriting. when that happens, I'm like "I gotta hurry," so I rush out of the shower, just wipe my hands, and take notes on my smartphone (laughs). getting inspired by watching something does happen, but the times it just randomly pops up are overwhelmingly higher.
Q. when do you get inspiration for writing lyrics?
🐧 lyric writing is a field where I still have a lot of homework to do. people say those who are good at writing lyrics read a lot of books, and I think that's literally true. seeing that a lot of people who write good lyrics majored in literature, I felt that, being like "wow, the power of books is really something, huh." so lately I'm thinking about reading some books. in Korea, there are more people who like poetry over novels, but for me, fiction feels more fun when I watch it as a video. when I was in middle school, I mostly read poetry books if I had to choose. reading those kinds of poems is something I want to learn from so I can get inspiration for writing lyrics.
Q. if you were given free time in Tokyo wearing this outfit, where would you want to go?
🐧 obviously I really want to go to Tokyo Tower. the night view being so incredibly beautiful left a huge impression on me, so I want to go to Tokyo Tower again and see the night view. high places are totally fine as long as I'm inside a building! or if there's a railing, it's no problem. wait? does Tokyo Tower have a glass floor where you can look straight down? safety is guaranteed though, right? if it looks too scary, I'm definitely not walking on that (laughs). after looking at the night view from Tokyo Tower, I want to stroll around the streets casually and go eat something delicious. like Okonomiyaki!
Q. 'Kitto Zutto', which you wrote and composed in 2024, has now become an essential song at your concerts. how did you feel watching MOA sing along from the stage?
🐧 just the fact that you guys were singing my song made my heart so full, and I felt incredibly thankful. listening to MOA's chorus makes me jump, run, and bounce around even harder than usual, and I feel so genuinely happy. also MOA, you guys are so good at singing and your voices are literally so beautiful. our shy MOAs gathering their courage to sing loudly together with us makes me so happy and super thankful.
Q. is there any Japanese you learned recently?
🐧 there are a bunch, but there's a line saying, "how rude, this is pure love." it's Okkotsu Yuta's line from the anime 'Jujutsu Kaisen', and I memorized it because I wanted to say it to MOA. because my feelings for MOA are pure love! hearing this line made me think, being like "this is so cool." saying it a bunch of times at our concerts was so fun, and I've also said it because MOA requested it. lately I've gotten so much better at Japanese, so when I traveled in Japan, the words just flowed out way more smoothly than I expected. living in Japan wouldn't even feel uncomfortable for me, I think. because I can speak basic Japanese, and I can just look up words I don't know. reading Hiragana and simple Kanji is something I can do now. going into a store and asking "do you have any recommendations?" is obvious, and I can even say "please give me the receipt!"
