➣ Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2026 amends Section 3 of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971.

➣ It extends the same legal protection to the National Song, #VandeMataram that is currently afforded to the National Anthem, #JanaGanaMana.

➣ The amendment makes it an offence to intentionally prevent the singing of the National Song or to cause a disturbance to an assembly engaged in its singing.

-There is a Rajput boy named Ankit in my locality.

-I used to teach him when he was in Class 12. He scored 92% and later topped his college in graduation.

-His mother is the sole breadwinner of a family of four, earning only ₹20,000 per month. Nearly half of her salary goes towards his father's treatment because his father is paralyzed.

-When the IBPS PO application came out, Ankit couldn't even arrange the ₹850 application fee because his father was hospitalized..

-On the other hand, there is an SC candidate named Shubham. His father is a government school principal with a stable income. Yet he pays only ₹175 for the same IBPS PO application while Ankit has to pay ₹850...

Even if Ankit somehow manages to pay ₹850, he still has to compete against category-wise cutoffs. Despite having merit and an EWS certificate, his chances of selection can be lower because of the reservation system.

Thousands of General Category students face this every year. They fail to clear the category-wise cutoffs, struggle again to arrange another ₹850 for the next application, and repeat the same cycle.

For an unemployed General Category aspirant, these application fees are not "Just a fee"..

Every failed attempt means asking parents for money all over again. Every application becomes a financial burden on a middle class family.

They keep preparing, keep paying, and keep battling depression, hoping that one day they'll finally clear the cutoff and earn a job to lift their family out of financial hardship.

There are countless Ankits whose merit alone is not enough.

There are countless Shubhams who pay much lower application fees and compete under different cutoffs. Even those who fail one attempt can apply again at a much lower cost.

What kind of inclusive growth is this?

The person who genuinely needs financial support is paying more, while someone from a financially secure family may pay far less simply because of caste.

What kind of social justice is this?

And to those who mock General Category students by saying, "You already have EWS".....

What exactly is the benefit?

If an EWS candidate still has to pay the full application fee, still competes under the highest fee slab, and still does not receive equal opportunity in selection, then what has actually changed?

If students like Ankit continue to be left behind even after holding an EWS certificate, then don't give him EWS.

Ankit doesn't want sympathy...
He doesn't want charity....
He doesn't even ask for special treatment....
He is ready to earn his place through merit...
All he asks for is one thing...
Let the starting line be the same for everyone!!!!
