It’s time to stop with the lie that those opposed to surveillance are “pro-crime” or don’t care about victims of crime.
Many of us know VERY WELL what it is like to be a victim of sexual assault or other violent crime so you go ahead & remove that talking point from your scripts
Incredible post-mortem on Tuesday’s win. Nicole is one of the best writers in this city. Grateful for her recognition of community members who lit the FUSUS resistance & saw it through til the end. Grateful to the organizations & CMs who fought with us.
Thank you, Nicole 🥹❤️

After being deferred at the 11/19 meeting, the Fusus resolution will be voted on at the next council meeting - December 3rd at 6:30pm. Show up to oppose Fusus if you can!
WATCH: NASHVILLE council member @SandraForNash Sepulveda expresses concerns to @MNPDNashville about how the FUSUS camera system could be used against immigrant communities in the Trump era.
If you are concerned too, now is the time to call the council.
Congress is working to pass a bill that would have a devastating, chilling effect on free speech and give the Trump administration power to strip tax-exempt status from nonprofits without due process or even a clear explanation (1/3).
"Who is safer here? It is not the immigrant community. It is not the LGBTQ community. It is not the unhoused community," says Vo.
She wipes away tears.
"I find it really disingenuous when we talk about how our city is diverse...we love the food...you know, when we consume, but then when there actually is a policy that would harm immigrant communities, we're like, 'It's okay,'" says Vo.
Just one of MANY reasons why local governments absolutely should not be expanding surveillance tech & infrastructure right now.
It will inevitably, at some point, be used against every marginalized group.

have any of you considered how black latinos or black immigrants as a whole feel watching you wish deportation on them? or how black arabs feel watching you reinforce stereotypes and wish that bombs are dropped in the middle east? or how black Palestinians, Sudanese, and Congolese people feel watching you give up on them and support corporations that aid in their suffering
When I hear ppl say Democrats policies are working for working ppl, we just need to message better, I think they must not know any one making less than $50k a year.
So that’s where we are with MA. No political will to do the right thing. No heart to have the best interests of Nashvillians. Just straight up racism because God forbid BIPOC have resources in this city.
Just fyi the MA interim director just said during a virtual meeting that no, it is not illegal to fund individual artists in TN because the TN Arts Commission does so without fiscal sponsorship.
Just 72 hours ago at the in person “community engagement” meeting Coleman gaslit Nicole M from Daybreak Arts when Nicole asked how the TN Arts Commission can pay individuals but not MA.
For me, when everything feels out of control, continuing to stand in solidarity with those most affected by local harmful policies is what keeps me going. We can fight them. We can talk to our neighbors about them. We can do something about so many things around us. 1/
