The debate around Newslaundry ethics is a reminder to all of us to remain humble. The problem begins precisely when you think you’re so much better than others that you can start being preacher & pulpit, doing long pieces on other newsrooms, based on exactly the sort of testimonies ( often unnamed) that are now challenging you. Anyone with a god complex will invariably be cut to size. This has literally nothing to do with media wars, or BJP vs Opposition. It’s the oldest proverb we learnt in nursery - those who live in glass houses should not throw stones at others. Yes, we are all imperfect, flawed, works in progress, making mistakes and trying to find our way through a changing world. Remaining grounded in that humility will go a long way. Nobody likes arrogance or humbug. Just my two bits. Sabki Dhulai se pehle apni bhi dhulai. Or recognise your obvious conflict of interest and likely doublespeak in commenting on others

On the face of it, the Asian Games always seems low hanging fruit; from a distance. By the time you approach a close 4th quarter, record books are in the past, the last whistle, the one not yet blown, ringing in your head and the Nagoya humid air clogging your senses.

India walks in favoured. That’s where expectations begin. Thrust onto a team by people that will never walk on the turf - they will either watch from afar or in the stands. The team better deliver. Bangladesh, Indonesia, Sri Lanka will just come and go like every morning does. South Korea and Japan will want more; maybe a big chunk out of India. The Koreans will sit back, wait patiently, if that works against the swift feet of the Indians. The Japanese will egg its team forward, willing them on. The Japanese fans love watching India but will want their boys to win; one loose ball, a second late in the midfield and the scoreboard might have a surprise look.

Topping Pool A is not a preference. It’s a must.

Pakistan and Malaysia will come against each other in Pool B, old wounds opening up, both not in the best of forms in a year or so, especially Malaysia but this will be a game worth watching. And if Pakistan waits for us in the semi-finals, will we find anything new? Amstelveen might provide answers. Emotion will however run high even though the decade’s past history tells us to be careful but not anxious.

Bombay High Court convicts Tarun Tejpal in the 2013 sexual assault case, overturning his acquittal. 13 years after a junior colleague said no inside a hotel elevator in Goa, the court has held that a man in a position of trust and authority raped her.

He stood in court and called himself a “political victim.” Father of two daughters. 62 years old. Asked for leniency.

The law saw something else: power, abuse of trust, and a clear refusal that was ignored.
