WATCH: Senate Deputy Minority Leader Risa Hontiveros on Monday, June 2, called the repeated delays in Vice President Sara Duterte's impeachment trial "alarming," warning that further postponements would violate the Constitution.

"Any further delays in commencing the trial against Vice President Duterte would violate the Constitution, which clearly states that the Senate 'shall forthwith proceed' with an impeachment trial. Hindi 'kapag ready na,' hindi 'kapag convenient,' kundi 'shall forthwith proceed,'" she said, after the trial was rescheduled from June 2 to June 11.

While backing urgent legislation like the Anti-POGO bill, Hontiveros stressed that the Senate must fulfill its constitutional duty to convene as an impeachment court without delay.

"We owe it to the Filipino people to convene as an impeachment court and begin the proceedings at the soonest possible time," she said.
