I am delighted to see faculty in ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ข๐ฅ๐๐ง๐ข publishing papers in high impact factor journals like ๐๐๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ ๐๐จ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ง๐ข๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฌ out of work entirely done from the institute.
One such publication is from Prof. Syamantak Majumderโs lab, in collaboration with Prof. Shibasish Chowdhury and Prof. Sandeep Sundriyal at BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus. The paper findings are important because problems with blood vessel stability can lead to many diseases, including heart attacks and strokes. By understanding these mechanisms better, future therapies could be developed to keep blood vessels healthier for longer.
This work highlights the growing strength of research at BITS Pilani in #biomedical sciences and the contributions being made by its researchers to solve real-world health challenges.
With sustained and commensurate #investments, the BITS Pilani system is making significant strides in research. Among the 23 IITs and IISc, we currently rank sixth in terms of research quality and publication output. In the past year alone, we filed over 170 #patents, and more than 25 faculty-led #startups are translating this research into products and technologies with meaningful societal impact.

Our study on how epigenetic mechanism in conjunction with NF-kB signalling control the expression of two shelterin proteins TERF2IP and TRF2 to promote hyperglycaemia-induced endothelial senescence was recently published in bioRxiv. https://t.co/pG45DvXbP0
๐ Eggs To Order - The Naval Version๐
(Author Unknown)
After the Army version of the "Eggs To Order" saga, here's the Naval version of the same.
In the Navy, the Officers' Mess is the Wardroom and there are no waiters. Instead, we have stewards. The Captain isn't a member of the Wardroom and has his own Mess and steward.
When I was on board INS Mysore, the officers' galley (Kitchen for the land lubbers), was being re-fitted. Therefore, the Officers' Cooks (a separate trade, different to the Sailor's Cooks, with a different training regime) were allotted one cooktop in the Ship's Galley. With this limited facility, they could not prepare eggs to order in the short time available. Therefore the PMC (President, Mess Committee) called a Mess Meeting and informed the officers that for one week that the galley was being re-fitted; there would be no eggs-to-order and all officers would get omelettes. Just as the PMC was about to dismiss the Mess Meeting, a hand went up reluctantly.
Everyone looked in that direction and saw one very junior engineering Sub Lt who wanted to say something. "Yes, Snotty (Midshipmen and Very junior officers are colloquially called snotty) what's the matter?"
The Sub Lt stammered, "Sir I'm on board INS Mysore to obtain my Engine Room Watch Keeping Certificate. I've been very categorically told by the Senior Engineer that I'm the lowest form of marine life (like in the Army, Subalterns are titled The Lowest form of Animal Life). All the fish, frogs and prawns are superior to me. Every single person on board orders me around. The only order I could give was an egg-to-order. Now you've deprived me of that too".
The PMC gave it a thought and asked for the other officers' views. It was unanimously decided that the Sub Lts who were on board to obtain a Watch Keeping Certificate would continue to be served eggs-to-order.
