What the salad tried to do to us.

The first ambition of any plant is to make itself uneatable. Long before anything clever walked on earth, plants settled on poisoning anything with a mouth. If you can’t run, you better taste terrible. The only way to stay alive was to face your predator (dinosaur, beetle, goat, man) with chemistry. Plants got clever in the only way available to them. They made toxins, astringents, enzymes, fibrous defences. Which made them and their parts bitter. Also indigestible, and outright poisonous.

In evolutionary terms, it was a cunning move. Not that the plant knows anything about cunning. But the natural consequence was deterrence. You bite, you suffer. You learn. You stop biting.

Humans responded in the human way. By using fire and other things. We boiled, we burned, we soaked, we crushed, we fermented. We pickled. We found ways to take the bitter poisonous offerings of plants to our hungers. We hacked our own biochem, made over 50 types of CYP450 enzymes. They’re fascinating. A plant toxin molecule (alkaloid, glucosinolate, cyanogenic glycoside, saponin etc) is like a greasy stain. CYP450s act like detergent: They grab it, break it apart, make it dissolve in water, and wash it away. Cats don’t have a lot of this stuff. The thiosulfates in a couple of cloves of garlic can trigger a dangerous oxidative crisis in cat blood. About four cloves (of garlic) can be a potentially lethal dose. A tiny amount of solanine from a raw potato can sicken and kill a rabbit. Without a particular kind of P450, a potato would be your last meal.

We figured out how to eat the enemy. And then we got kinky about it. Our tongues learned to relish the sting. And the rot. We started liking the burn and the bitterness. We started having poison for the plot. Hot sauce. Tannins. Coffee so strong it peels paint. Flavour is a toxin we’ve come to applaud.

Plants spent a hundred million years trying to kill us. We’ve spent a hundred million years learning to savour their attempts. That’s the story, give or take a few famines and a few million deaths.

93.1 vs 47.9 — Is this what "equality" looks like in modern India?

Welcome to JEE 2025, where your caste decides your future more than your hard work.
If you're a General category student, you're expected to score 93.1 marks.
But if you belong to the ST category, you're eligible with just 47.9 marks.

Same exam. Same syllabus. Same competition.
But different cutoffs. Different rules. Different realities.

How is it fair that a student scoring almost half of what a general category student scores gets the same seat, the same college, the same branch?

This isn’t social justice — this is systematic discrimination.

Lakhs of deserving students are being punished every year for the "crime" of being born in a so-called forward caste.
No matter how talented or hardworking they are, the system is rigged against us.

Stop using caste as a tool for vote-bank politics.
End this 75-year-old injustice.
We need economic-based reservations, not caste-based favoritism.

Speak up. It's time to fight for real equality.

How do you expect your child to be taught by someone who couldn’t even get proper score?

I've seen many reserved candidates from well-off families getting into govt jobs with absurdly low cutoffs , like this. Not underprivileged, just privileged by policy.

And then the government wonders why parents don't trust Govt Schools. Why would they?

With such broken selection systems, India is bleeding with unskilled and incompetent staff , and even worse, led by politicians who refuse to fix this.

Where is this country headed?
Why is no one talking about such a burning issue?
Truly worrying times.

1.Rajshree Gutka
2.My11Circle
3.Vimal Gutka
4.PokerBaazi

Mind-boggling! The sheer scale of betting and Gutka/Pan Masala consumption in India is what allows these companies to flood prime-time with ads.

Meanwhile, gutka is BANNED nationwide by Supreme Court and FSSAI. So which law lets media and channels promote it? Why is the government silent?

I see top actors and cricketers shamelessly endorsing these products. India is a country where the government loves to pretend it’s safeguarding public health while openly allowing harmful industries to thrive. Hypocrisy at its peak!😡
