An excellent thread, to be read by anyone who thinks these houndings and witch hunts are over. Solidarity with @rachelsfletcher, and if you're able please do contribute to the Crowdfund at the end. This has to stop.
@TheVikingDane I remember eating a tin of Chas and Di toffees while watching Saturday Night Fever which premiered on tv that evening while the adults got drunk at the street party. Prob not the best film for a bunch of under 12s.
@CarlLaverick I owe 16.5k after 20 years. I only borrowed 11k. Needed a degree for my poorly paid but highly regarded profession. Until last years pay rise I was paying £1 a month. Got a refund last year for overpayment-mad not to as debt will be written off as I was a mature student.
Thank you to everyone who has stood with us, shared Suzy’s story and helped keep this conversation going.
Together, we will continue working towards a world where everyone can live free from violence, aggression and fear.
#40YearsShouldHaveBeenEnough
I’ve just seen a post from yet another man who thinks my position has shifted since I wrote my 2020 essay about gender identity ideology and the consequent clash of rights https://t.co/pasxBD1Hzl
For the avoidance of doubt, I stand by every word I wrote then. For instance: ‘woman isn’t a costume.’ If it surprises you that I say men don’t become women by wearing make up and dresses, you didn’t understand the essay. I’ve been crystal clear all along that I believe people are free to live and present themselves as the opposite sex if that’s what feels comfortable and authentic TO THEM. This appears to have been interpreted (most often, tellingly, by men) as ‘and it naturally follows that I, as a woman, will validate a man’s belief that he is now, to all intents and purposes, the same sex as me, and I will use only the speech he deems appropriate and will be very careful to protect his sensitive ego, no matter the cost to myself in pretending to believe a falsehood, or the loss of my own rights due to this pretence.’
Dress as you like within normal bounds of situational decency, wear lipstick, sequins and a beard if you want, call yourself whatever you like, have sex with any consenting adult you please: I wish you health, happiness and safety. What you don’t get is the power to compel my speech and belief.
When I call a man a man, I am speaking verifiable truth. It is essential to be able to accurately name sex when discussing fair sport, facilities and services for women and girls and the right of gay people not to be demonised for their same-sex attraction. In years to come, a lot of useful idiots are going to awake to the fact that they’ve been complicit in enormous harm done to women, girls, gay people who stood against the insanity, and some extremely vulnerable young people. I don’t doubt we’ll hear a lot of, ‘I thought I was just being kind.’ Such individuals, especially those in positions of power, should be asked why they never had anything to say about the loud, public, widespread unkindness directed against those who refused to adopt their fashionable, elitist beliefs, eg, the detransitioners being bullied and vilified by former ‘allies’, the whistleblowers who tried to stop an unregulated experiment on troubled children, the women who lost their careers and livelihoods by standing up for all women’s rights.
Some people appear to believe it a worse crime for a woman to call a man a man than for trans activists to call loudly and publicly for the assault and assassination of all women who refuse to bend the knee. I have never wished violence or any other kind of harm on a trans-identified person, but, like many other people who’ve defended women’s and girls’ rights over the past few years, I have received thousands of threats of death, rape and torture. The wilful blindness of those who bleat ‘both sides’ will rightly be judged harshly in times to come.
TL;DR Trans women aren’t women, and if that hurts your feelings, be grateful you live in a society where you are just as free to espouse gender ideology as I am to speak the truth. As Orwell said: ‘Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows.’
On Fathers day, June 21st, my two grandchildren, aged 13 and 8, went to lay flowers on their Dads grave.
Their Dad was called Edward.
He was my Son.
He sadly took his own life 14 months ago and his ashes are interred in a Parish Council Cemetery in Devon.
Over the past year the children have visited the grave many times, to lay flowers or to leave little hand painted mementos.
But this time it was different. The concrete slab that had been placed over the grave just after I'd lowered his ashes into the ground was now missing.
The grave was now uncovered. Just a patch of bare earth was visible.
The slab is intended to stay in place for eternity. Families then have the choice of whether or not to commission a memorial tablet to be secured on top of it.
We had recently started finalising the details of the memorial tablet we were going to install on Edwards grave.
I received a call from the person accompanying the children to the grave telling me what they'd discovered. I could hear my 8 year old granddaughter crying in the background.
I immediately jumped in my car and drove the 30 miles to the cemetery.
Within a couple of minutes I'd worked out what had happened.
My Sons slab had been removed from his grave and used on a grave just 6 feet away and a memorial tablet had been cemented on top of it.
Our grave had been raided for spare parts by the mason who, upon arrival at the cemetery to install a memorial to a grave, had noted the grave had no slab upon which to attach the memorial so took the one covering Edwards grave.
He then just walked away, got in his van, drove off and didn't tell anyone.
This happened on June 18th, just 3 days before Fathers Day.
The company he works for is Fine Memorials. They're based in Bridgwater in Somerset and they also have branches in Exeter, Barnstaple, Taunton and Minehead.
Their branches in Tiverton and Yeovil operate under different names.
The Director of the company has offered to make and fit a memorial for free but I've repeatedly told him I don't want my Sons grave tainted by any further involvement by Fine Memorials.
He's said he'd consider funding a tablet made by another memorials company (quote) "if the price is right". The price is obviously the key factor as far as he's concerned but he needn't worry about this because we'll fund our own memorial.
I have however suggested (by email), that he pay compensation to my two grandchildren who discoverd their Dads grave in that state on Fathers Day. I've also suggested it would be appropriate to make a donation to a mental health charity of our choice.
He should also consider reimbursing the family who paid his company to have a memorial fitted to their grave only to discover it was cemented to a slab pilfered from another grave.
He has so far refused to discuss these suggestions. His only offer is the free memorial and I've told him he can stick that.
The Fine Memorials website and their entries on websites of the various trade bodies they belong to, mentions words like dignity, compassion and respect.
None of these qualities are evident in the way they treated my Sons grave or in the manner they've treated their own customer whose own memorial was cemented to an essential component taken from someone elses grave.
I wouldn't recommend any dealings with Fine Memorials.
Amnesty have written to people saying
“We regret ‘A growing threat: the anti-rights movement in the UK’ briefing was uploaded to our website without going through the established internal review processes that are in place to ensure consistency, accuracy and alignment with Amnesty International UK's positions. It's use of language does not reflect the position of Amnesty International UK which is why it was promptly removed.”
“We remain committed to defending human rights, including both the rights of women and the rights of trans people.”
This is insulting double-speak.
@VMMChamberlain Keep fighting for *what*? Someone who calls themselves non-binary is still a man or a woman and has the same rights as every other human being in this country. 'Non-binary' is just a made-up term, Victor, with as much real-world validity as 'blingy-blong' or 'splidge-splodge'.
@BertDalziel Not breast feeding saved me from post natal depression after horrific pregnancy. Didn't stop my MIL from accusing me of poisoning her poor precious grandchild though. I wouldn't have been brave enough if it hadn't been for a lady on my ward bottle feeding from the off.
This is nothing short of Brilliant by Ann……. Sit back and follow the straightness of the compass that will always land you on solid ground. Thank you Ann and rest in Peace whilst your legacy lives on. X
“Nobody has the right to live their lives being protected from offence, or from insult, or from hurt feelings. It is an occupational hazard of living in society, and if you really can’t take it, become a hermit.”
My favourite Ann Widdecombe speech 👏🇬🇧❤️
Ann Widdecombe has possibly been murdered, and @SkyNews thinks it’s appropriate to have a man discussing whether she was a virgin.
Why would whether a woman had ever had penetrative sex be relevant to her possible murder?
He then went on to speculate, on mainstream media, that it was a robbery gone wrong rather than politically motivated. That may ultimately prove to be the case, but speculation about motive before the facts are established has no place in responsible news coverage.
The first instinct when discussing a woman who may have been murdered should never be to reduce her to her sexual history. Ann Widdecombe deserved better. Every woman deserves better.
Me on X.
I don’t look at your time line. Who you follow. What mates you have. How you vote. Where you come from. What nationality you are. Who your team is or how you identify.
Some words pop up randomly that I agree with or don’t. I might type on that or pass. Then I fuck off.
