A Berkeley engineer who spent 18 months poisoning his coworker with cadmium is about to get his felony conviction erased, and his victim just released the video proving it.

David Xu, a metallurgist described in Chinese-language reporting as a Chinese engineer, secretly added the toxic metal to Rong Yuan’s food and water from 2017 to 2019. She repeatedly ended up in the ER. Her parents also got sick. Tests showed cadmium levels up to 3.5 million times the federal limit.

He was charged with attempted murder. A 2023 plea deal dropped that to one poisoning count. He got two years of probation and one day in jail. The judge called it “extremely generous.”

He finished probation this year. Now he’s asking a judge to wipe the felony off his record so future employers won’t see it. Yuan has released the 2019 hidden-camera footage of him pouring the substance into her water bottle and is fighting the request. A hearing is set for October 12-13.

Fort Hood shooting survivor Alonzo Lunsford says he wants to witness the execution of the man who tried to kill him, Nidal Malik Hasan, who is expected to be executed by firing squad.

Lunsford wants to face the terrorist who tried to take his life and deliver one final message: “I am not your victim anymore. I’m a survivor.”

A staff sergeant at the time of the 2009 Fort Hood mass shooting, Lunsford was shot seven times. He survived, but the attack left him blind in one eye, without half his intestines, and suffering from lasting nerve damage.

After everything he has endured, he refuses to let the man who tried to kill him define his life. He is no longer just a victim. He is a survivor.
