@SyntaxError2505 + Linux also does the same thing. The only difference is Linux comes with most to all device drivers, which is open-source. That's why most of the time things "just work". Even Linux uses proprietory drivers (eg. Nvidia, now fully open-source). Windows only includes the basics.

@SyntaxError2505 USB Tethering exists. Ethernet exists. USB drives exist. There are multiple ways to download drivers. And never trust Windows's Device Manager, it (as in its name) manages the individual components, and has no role on updating the drivers automatically. You do that yourself.
