and especially after what happened last month, i genuinely cannot understand how we are already back here. i refuse to invoke someones passing as ammunition against either side bc reducing her life and what happened to another fandom talking point would repeat the exact problem im condemning. may she rest in peace.

but what happened shouldve forced everyone to remember something extremely basic:

THERE IS A HUMAN BEING ON THE RECEIVING END.

that should matter BEFORE something irreversible happens. not only afterward when everybody suddenly discovers kindness, mental health and humanity for a week before going straight back to the same behavior.

and no, the solution isnt “the other side needs to be nicer.” the problem is a culture where cruelty becomes acceptable the second we decide the target deserves it.

someone does something horrible, retaliation becomes “deserved,” retaliation creates another victim, their side retaliates, and everybody starts collecting screenshots proving why THEIR cruelty was justified. eventually everybody has an archive. everybody has a justification. and nothing fcking changes.

and can we please relearn what CRITICISM actually means?

criticism is identifying what somebody did, explaining why it was wrong/harmful, correcting it where necessary and holding THEM accountable for THEIR actions.

criticism does not require mocking someones illness, body, trauma or vulnerabilities. it doesnt require humiliation, harassment, threats, dogpiling or exposing someones private information.

thats NOT “criticism.” thats cruelty masking itself as accountability.

u can say “what u did was disgusting” without deciding the person who did it is now subhuman and therefore anything done to them is justified.

mocking illness isnt activism. harassment isnt defense. doxxing isnt accountability. humiliation isnt justice. revenge isnt criticism. and cruelty does not become moral just bc the person receiving it was cruel first. someone behaving horribly does NOT make them fair game for absolutely anything in return.

condemn them. criticize them. correct them. report them. block them. refuse to forgive them if thats where u stand. NONE of that requires becoming cruel yourself.

and stop reducing thousands of individuals to “engenes are ___” or “evers are ___” based on whichever vile screenshot u found today. plenty of ppl on both sides havent participated in any of this. people are responsible for what THEY choose to do.

we keep treating every incident like a brand new fandom scandal when its the SAME underlying problem reproducing itself w different names attached.

the target changes. the justification changes. the side retaliating changes. but THE MECHANISM DOESNT.

and until ppl care more about breaking that mechanism than proving which side started it, which side is worse or which side gets to feel morally superior, this shit is never going to end.
