Today James Baldwin would have turned 99 ❤️
His answer to the question, “Why must you always concentrate on color?” is the best answer I’ve ever heard. Must watch.
@neiltyson@USNavy Mitch Hedberg: I think Bigfoot is blurry, that’s the problem. It’s not the photographers fault and that’s extra scary to me because there’s a large out of focus monster roaming the countryside
Sometimes I wonder whether alien space vessels are inherently fuzzy & out-of-focus (that would be terrifying). And whether they love the @USNavy (that would be charming).
If so, it would explain a lot.
My first first-author paper is out! We checked if forensic genetic markers really contain no medical info. I started this work as an undergrad with my awesome mentors @rvrohlfs and @emiliahsc. I’m super excited to share it with you today. Video: https://t.co/FwprYfKr0b (1/n)
The US federal forensic genetic database has >19 million profiles. Some local policies (like ‘spit and acquit’ in Orange Co, CA) expansively collect profiles, as if they have no medical info. Our SFSU student team questioned this central assumption with publicly available data.

Anxiety? Im not anxious, wtf. I just worry constantly about the familial and societal pressures placed on me since birth & how I'm going to break the cycle of generational poverty, it's not that srs, lol.
Rohlfs Lab’s very own, Cynthia Perez is defending her Masters Thesis this week! Have you ever wondered how Genealogical Searching works(the forensic method used to catch the infamous Golden State Killer)? Cynthia dives into how shes analyzing this method in her talk:
When the Kilauea volcano on Hawaii’s Big Island erupted, the @NASAEarth Science Disasters Program kicked into high gear gathering researchers, data managers and satellite teams with only one thing in mind: What can we do to help?
