the intention with the Nature Manifesto in Centre Pompidou @CentrePompidou is not just to remind us to maintain our deep connection with nature. i didn’t only want to talk the talk but walk the walk, so i reached out to young environmentalists in iceland and france, Sustainable Ocean Alliance @SOAlliance , BLOOM @Bloom_FR and Ungir umhverfissinnar @umhverfissinnar.

france has the 2nd largest maritime space in the world so it matters what they do and what they don’t do. france claims to have met the 30x30 goal,* but more than 90% of their MPAs (Marine Protected Areas) are so called “paper-parks,” - protected on paper but not in reality. at the moment emmanuel macron allows bottom trawling within them, causing obvious immense destruction. we would like to encourage you to encourage french authorities to stop this nonsense. together we can do this.

Nature Manifesto, pt. 1

it is an emergency
the apocalypse has already happened
and how we will act now is essential
in pioneering sound-strata

We would like to share our “Nature Manifesto,” a sound installation at the Centre Pompidou @CentrePompidou, Paris. Produced in collaboration with IRCAM @Ircam using AI software, this immersive sound piece gives endangered and extinct animals a voice by merging their sounds with our words. We wanted to share their presence in an architecture representing the industrial age, far away from nature. In the veins of the escalator of the museum, known as the “caterpillar,” we wanted to remind citizens of the raw vitality of endangered creatures. Even though you are restlessly traveling between floors whilst listening to this soundpiece, the tone of animals’ voices hopefully builds a sonic bridge towards the listeners. And in the spirit of these animals, in the magic of how they are sensually aligned with their environment, they become our teachers! Their ghosts remind us of improving our primordial mindfulness. But we didn’t only want to talk the talk but walk the walk, so together with young environmentalists in France and Iceland, we have set up a campaign. It will launch later.

BJÖRK'S CORNUCOPIA BOOK RELEASE

I’m proud to announce the release of Cornucopia: The Book. This book documents my five-year tour, Cornucopia, designed by M/M Paris, with images shot by photographer Santiago Felipe.

Before this tour, I spent a decade working with 360-degree sound and visual software in virtual reality and animation, creating Biophilia, the first app album, and later Vulnicura as a VR album. I was deeply inspired by the idea of a fully-immersive experience, spending a spring in an Icelandic lighthouse, spreading Utopia into fully surround speakers. My intention was to bring what we had created for 21st-century VR into a 19th-century theatre—taking it from the headset to the stage.

This vision was realized with 27 moving curtains that captured projections on different textures and LED screens, creating a digitally animated show: a modern lanterna magica for live music. I also wanted to feature bespoke instruments: a magnetic harp, an aluphone, a circular flute, and a reverb chamber, specially built with an audio architect to enhance the most intimate version of a performance—in a personal chapel.

Throughout this tale, there is a subplot woven in: a second story of an avatar—a modern marionette who alchemically mutates, from puppet to puppet, from the injury of a heart wound to a fully healed state.
