#BBC: I don’t think you can expect the Azeri government to put aside their national interests because of a climate conference. You can expect them to not mix-up those interests with their role as independent chair.
@Teresaribera@vonderleyen Well done Teresa. I am very happy to see you in this important position. I hope you will be able to keep things moving in some places and get them moving in all places, respecting the different interests at stake as well as the abilities and responsibilities to act.
Some Japanese hotels have discovered eco cleaning: not cleaning your room/intermittent cleaning. Instead you get amenities wrapped in a jaw-dropping amount of plastic waste 😉
@goingforsd Depends on the mandate. Which economies will be successful in the world we want? Reduced emissions are a better “sell” as a means to an end, than an end in themselves.
Not sure (Stiell) finance is the great enabler for climate action. More the will to use it for the right not the wrong. That means not running climate into the ground at someone else’s expense.
@RichardMuyungi@ClimaliaEU To say that the group of “leaders” who negotiated the Copenhagen Accord was “representative”, is a horrible travesty of truth. That process killed any hope of a legally binding agreement. People blame the UN for the failure of that CoP and forget that they are the (un)UN.
A major @IEA report out today shows that the transition to net zero emissions would mean lower energy costs globally than if we continue on our current path
Scaling up clean technologies is good for affordability as well as for cutting emissions
