This really is no joke. People act like toxic environments in research is the price we have to pay for genius to succeed. But have we considered that there might be more success in positive work environments where everyone feels properly supported? /1

@fbouchard Une image vaut mille mots...

Everyone should be able to access a research career in Canada, not just those who can take on debt and poverty #SupportOurScience

Rapport 👇 https://t.co/MeCf6L7XKP
The entire academic board of the journal Neuroimage, including professors from Oxford University, King’s College London and Cardiff University resigned after Elsevier refused to reduce publication charges https://t.co/1pIATmTVQn
Despite numerous government reports and studies that recommended Canada increase funding for graduate students, postdocs, and research grants #Budget2023 had nothing new for science
So what did we do? WE WALKED OUT! #SupportOurScience
The minimum wage today increases to $15.25 in QC. In 2003, it was $7.30. Meanwhile, @NSERC_CRSNG graduate student stipends haven't changed during the same period. This is unacceptable. #SupportOurScience
Much has changed in 14 years (including the color of my hair). What has not changed is student funding. Grad students today receive the same stipend & NSERC award levels that I did back then! Time for an adjustment! #walkout#SupportOurScience@SupportOurSci@NSERC_CRSNG@FRQ_NT
@Eco_Harvey@FRQ_NT@NSERC_CRSNG@FP_Champagne A great start, but still, not enought. Le revenu viable pour une personne seule est de 29 577$ à Mtrl et de 28 967$ à Qc (IRIS, 2022). With 6K/year of tution and fee, that let only 14K and 19K for food, rent etc. That is a debt 11-16K/year. How can we live ?
1/2 As we march today in support for graduate students/postdoc pays, let's keep in mind that only a minority is directly supported by individual scholarships. The vast majority are funded by grants to faculty. These also need much increase to support ALL!

20 ans sans augmentation, ça suffit!!!!
