Wow. That this is Facebook’s official statement by Andy Stone after being sued by nearly every state in the union for its role in depression and death by suicide after burying evidence and fighting legislation to rein it in. No wonder their surrogates are otherwise silent. 1/3
For some reason, Casey is surprised? How could ANYONE think the "oversight board" was a good idea? Let alone how could someone who visited Facebook moderators think it was a good idea? Why do we trust oversight of our social media platforms to "journalists" like this trash?
@RonRosenbaum1 Never underestimate how bad human moderator decisions can be. Companies like this/FB expect moderators to have some understanding of every topic in the content they review, but no one is capable of that. The typical hiree doesn't even recognize "internet humor", hate speech, etc.
@vox_union Never forget that Casey Newton knew that a policy team leader was sending harassing messages to moderators outside of working hours and didn't think it could be reported @Foxglovelegal
Never forget that Casey Newton needed "someone" to explain to him why it wasn't a good thing that a trainee and a class instructor left the class to have sex @vox_union
Watch video of Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg competing, and losing, in a jiu-jitsu match a month ago. This was the match at the heart of @Bernstein's NYT story. This was taken by the winner's spouse and shared with NPR.
