i think people sometimes hide their truest selves because rejection feels more painful when it’s actually your deepest true self being rejected. it’s an understandable form of self-protection to avoid that pain, but this also protects you from the deepest forms of friendship and love

for me, a powerful reframe was that finding these kindred spirits is so so worth it. every person who doesn’t resonate is useful information. i’d rather beam the clearest possible signal and be rejected if it means the right people can actually find me

people sometimes date by presenting the most broadly palatable version of themselves. i feel the better strategy is the opposite, as in be as odd and honest as possible, as early as possible

the goal isn’t to have 100 mid first dates. it’s to help the wrong people lose interest faster, and the right person recognise your highly specific signal
