@simba_guleid@RadioGenKe@Asmali77@EUinKenya Urban exposure acts as hubs where capital, ideas, and talent converge, fostering environments ripe for entrepreneurial ventures and career progression,,you sadly ommitted to mention, individuals shaped by the rigors of harsh environments often carry with them invaluable traits.
@Josh001J With the departure of Burundis, you will still live in the slums, sell eggs on the roadside, ride a rusty bike from old archaic civilisation, ask yourselves how has that benefited you,,
Two Versions of the Same Coast
At a meeting in Beijing, President Xi Jinping of China talked about Somalia not just within the framework of current diplomatic relations but rather from the point of view of six centuries of common history.
He remembered that when it was the Ming Dynasty, the famous admiral Zheng He took his fleet to the Somali coast. As President Xi stated, the Chinese introduced tea, porcelain, medical knowledge, and agricultural expertise. Moreover, he pointed out that in 1960 Somalia became the first country in East Africa to establish formal diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China.
They are not merely personal opinions or old legends. They are the words which have been officially recorded by a head of state.
For many generations the writings of European colonists gave a quite different version of that coast; they described Somali society as having no recorded history, as being outside the main trends of civilisation, and as needing foreigners to bring about modernity and progress.
It is stated that centuries prior to European colonization goods, knowledge, and ideas had already been crossing the Indian Ocean and arriving at the Somali coast.
The other one presents the Somalis as a people having no history.
It is impossible for both versions to be true.
The statement by President Xi does not remove the tough realities facing Somalia today; it merely brings the older historical record into play. When that record is permitted to be presented alongside the colonial version, people will then be able to look at both and make up their own minds about which one gives a more accurate account of the past.
History isn't just the account chosen by the most powerful force of a given age; it also includes what other civilizations have recorded, what communities have kept in their collective memory, and what generations of people have carried across the sea.
