the AI SDR's biggest competitor right now is a pen.
this hit 74K views and 1,000+ bookmarks in 11 hours. he photographed a handwritten note, sent it in a LinkedIn DM with "so you know its not automated," and says he got 2 replies in under 10 minutes.
what's doing the work is that one line. every inbox is full of AI sequences now, and effort you can't fake is the only pattern interrupt left.
run it backwards with nick abraham's cold email math from today:
10 clients = 133 leads = 133,000 emails at 1 lead per 1,000
say a note DM becomes a lead 5% of the time (a guess, test yours)
133 leads = 2,660 notes
at 3 min each, 133 hours of writing
so email stays. the notes go to the top of your list.
the play: pick the 50 accounts where one meeting pays for the quarter. write each a 3-line note that could only be for them. photo it, DM it, and log sent / replied / booked like any other channel.
Your next power user won't have eyes.
Greg Isenberg today: the tools agents use for posting, email, payments and browsing are going vertical, with Postiz at $275k MRR. Jason Lemkin shared a line today that running Salesforce agentically is 10x-100x better than logging in.
If an agent is the one choosing and using your product, your funnel moves. The agent-ready GTM checklist:
1. Docs are the landing page. An agent picking a tool reads your API reference and llms.txt. Your hero copy does nothing for it.
2. Signup works without a human. API key from a CLI or an OAuth device flow. A CAPTCHA or a "book a demo" wall is where the agent stalls and tries the next tool.
3. Pricing is published and usage based. An agent can't sit through a sales call.
4. Error messages are onboarding. A 400 that says what to fix lets the agent retry alone. A vague one ends the session.
5. Distribution is the connector directory. Ship an MCP server and get it into the official MCP Registry and the client directories, because that list is where people pick tools for their agents.
6. Analytics split humans from agents. Tag usage by client (API key, the MCP client name sent at connect, headless browser user agent) so you know what share is already agent-driven.
Greg's frame: sell to agents, feed agents, or house agents. This is the sell-to side.
Postiz hitting $275k MRR so FAST is a great example of what I'm seeing: tools that agents use for things like posting, email, payments, phone numbers and browsing are going vertical.
A few other businesses I keep seeing go vertical:
- Data brokering. Selling rare/useful AND expert knowledge to labs and to companies training their own agents.
- Hosting for agents. Renting always on computers so people can run their agents 24/7. A lot of people want an agent working for them and have no idea how to set one up.
- Compute reselling. Buying GPU capacity in bulk and renting it out to smaller teams who need it for a few hours.
- Vertical harnesses. Agents built for one industry and one workflow, like insurance claims or construction bids.
- Skills. People are selling packaged skills that make an agent good at a specific job.
- Done for you agent setup. Local businesses are paying someone to set up agents for them, the same way they used to pay someone to build their website.
When you zoom out, almost all of these do one of three things. They sell to agents, they feed agents, or they house agents!
