Can ENDF’s General Burhanu Julia read either Amharic or English? I am forced to ask this question after I finshed listening to his address in Jigjiga where he humiliated residents of my birth place. He said ENDF defeated Somalia in 1977/78 in 37 hours.

I don’t think he read internal military documents or other works written on the war. The Ogden war took place between April 1977-June 1978. Somali troops controlled all of the Ogaden region part of 1977 and early parts of 1978. In the end, it took massive Soviet deployment, 20K Cubans and 10k Yemenis foot soldiers and other Soviet bloc experts to push out Somali and WSLF.

We don’t want to go back to those painful days. Somebody needs to silence this uninformed General who is given unlimited access to dangerous toys. Jula has been dangerous to Ethiopians. He could be more dangerous to Somalis both in the Ogaden region as well as inside Somalia.

Consider this an early warning.

President Hassan Sheikh intends to unilaterally alter the constitution, shifting the country from its current hybrid parliamentary democracy to a system that grants the president extensive powers. However, this transition towards a one-man rule lacks inclusivity in terms of constitutional change, as the amendments were drafted without transparency and under the president's control.

This divisive action will not only worsen the country's existing challenges, such as terrorist attacks, widespread unemployment, corruption, and an economic crisis, but it will also widen the gap of mistrust among the nation.
