@AlanaRo93529970 #Collaboration is going to be a key skill at the forefront of my integrated unit of work. I will ensure S are becoming global competent citizens by addressing the issue of pollution in our waterways both at a local and global level. #SDG14
@AlanaRo93529970 I will be using PBL, De Bono's #6Thinkinghats and purposeful teaching through community-based pedagogy. I believe these will be crucial elements in setting up an engaging integrated unit that encourages higher-order thinking and 21st-century skills.
Definitely, a must download! Apps are a fantastic way to delve deeply into specific content. This app allows you to be a part of the #SDG community and learn how to achieve or work towards the goals. Have you downloaded it? How do you use it? #UoNTeach

@MaxTownsend_ I agree! The recent flood is a great catalyst to start the conversation. I will be incorporating a beach clean up in the bay right by my school for my integrated unit. Beach cleanups are a fantastic way for S to help with the problem while also seeing the enormity of the issue.
@Oliviacowieuon1 What an excellent use of ICT while also showing S the enormity of the pollution problem. This would be a fantastic resource to include in an integrated unit to see both the local and global impacts on our waterways. #SDG14
@CarneySandoe@NAISnetwork@k12lab I have to agree, #innovation like many of the #21stcenturyskills are not necessarily new to schooling but they are more than important than ever. Creating globally competent S that are curious and interested in the world will in term produce some interesting innovations.
@ConstructPdx@jaden@JUST What a wonderful opportunity for S of all ages to be a part of. The younger generation is our future and it would be very interesting to see #innovative products being designed and created by S. I would love to see innovative ways to reduce plastic waste in our waterways.
@KatriceHubble Exactly! Important issues such as #pollution in our waterways need to be introduced through a PBL or at a whole-school level approach. Without creating global competence within S they won't be able to understand the global significance of the issue. #knowledgeispower
@SophieK11031398 A very interesting read. I agree #ICT is a fantastic resource to use in the classroom. The technology needs to be used correctly and for a purpose to encourage and aid the skills or information being learnt. It should never take over the actual explicit teaching of the lesson.
@Ed_Tech_Em These are some wonderful questions to reflect on when teaching. Mansilla & Jackson (2011), suggest that 'Pandora questions' are the most effective as they seem simple but often lead to in-depth discussion, #higherorderthinking & fascinating reflections.
@Paige_Gabriel1 I am going to be incorporating PBL, De Bono's #6thinkinghats & purposeful teaching. By incorporating these pedagogies, it creates an #inclusive environment by touching on all of the S strengths. This allows them to control the activities and work towards a meaningful outcome.
@AlanaRo93529970 What a wonderful resource!
On my last placement I Incorporated a ‘calm jar’ for S to self regulate their emotions. The S filled the jar with ideas on way to calm themselves down. S then could go to the jar whenever they felt like the needed to regulate their emotions.
@Cait76128957 Yes! Very important especially when developing S awareness about major issues such as #pollution in waterways. This allows S to become globally competent, having the tools to be empathetic & compassionate to certain issues & really delve into the knowledge needed to contribute.
#Empathy, #compassion & #kindness can be taught & developed right from the early stages of a child’s life. Coulombe & Zuccaro (2021) encourage purposeful teaching of kindness to create a positive classroom culture. This is a #21stcenturyskill that all children need to develop.
“Children who learn to treat others with respect and generosity in their classroom community can carry these values outside the classroom and throughout their lives.” 5 ways to spread kindness in your class.

@Cait76128957 Yes I have to agree. Using visual stimuli is a wonderful way to encourage creativity and even empathy for the issue. Project based learning is a wonderful way to incorporate these lesson into. S will be able to create a links and perspectives on these ideas and issues!
@Taylah38272878 Imagination and creativity are important skills to have in the 21st century. This is a wonderful photo that could really help S start a discussion about the image. This also incorporates skills such as communication.
@RattrayTia Wow! This is such a wonderful thing to see. Creating context for students is a great way to keep students engaged. I will be using a similar concept for my integrated project by bringing awareness to the community via a student exhibition.
@Oliviacowieuon1 I agree! I am surprised this isn't more knowing. I guess communication and awareness are key here. Have a look at @bags2benches they have a fantastic program that offers start packs. It is another great initiative that could easily be incorporated as a whole-school approach.
@AlanaRo93529970 I love these suggestions! Collaboration is such an important skill to have. To include this through ICT with @googledocs is a great way to encourage S to advance their technological abilities. Could be a good tool when doing whole-school projects and working across classes?
Twitter is a fantastic way to “enhance communication, collaboration and engagement” (Carpenter & Krutka, 2014). Which are key #21stcenturylearning skills. What other applications have you used to enhance and acknowledge these skills in your classroom? #UoNTeach#educ4750
Collaboration is a key #21stcenturyskill that should be included in the classroom. My unit plan will incorporate planning, designing & displaying awareness about pollution in the waterways. S will have to use skills like negotiation & conflict resolution to decide on an idea.
